I'm flying down to Orlando from knoxville tomorrow and coming back Saturday in the afternoon. I hope I don't get stuck. Looking like I may leave right before it hits

I'm just a tad north and east of Orlando. About 35 miles to the coast as the crow flies. Got reservations in Macon starting Saturday night, just in case. Worst case scenario is Irma stays north of Cuba and misses interaction with their mountains, then abruptly turns north and goes up the spine of the state.

The bad part about that is that it puts the east side of the storm over populated areas. SE Florida, i.e. Miami and Ft. Lauderdale, would see sustained winds of over 150 mph. Loss of life could be profound, not from flooding, though that could occur, but from homes and structures being torn apart.

Some models have it over Orlando as a Cat 4, which puts me on the east side of that, too. Charley Redux, only a lot stronger.

I already donated my tickets for Mercer/Furman on Saturday back to the school or I'd offer those to you. If you have to bug out, I'm reasonably certain you could get in if you showed up. Might be a good game. I think we have a good atmosphere for a small school at FCS level. Not sure that there's much else to do in MaconGa.

P.S. we just packed a box full of jerky and nuts to overnight to our family in Naples.

If you have a couple of hours, I'd recommend:

Thanks for the recommendations.

Latest GFS run shows it now hugging the east coast of the state. That is good and bad. A jog of 30 or 40 miles east or west on that track makes an enormous difference.

It's blowing up. 185 mph and 926 mb now. I've got my plywood and plylox clips ready for the windows. I'm really hoping this doesn't get anywhere near the central west coast. Probably wishful thinking.

The NHC model has it going up the west coast. The Euro models have it going up the east coast

I was just able to grab flood insurance for $480. I'm not in a flood zone, but there is massive new construction in the development behind us that's never been "tested". Better safe than sorry.
