Its not about being lanky its about being too big of a target. Tell me the last good RB in the SEC or any other conference that was 6'4". I hope he's the first but I doubt he ever takes a handoff at UT or any other university. Eddie George was 6'3" so I guess 1" more doesnt really matter. I just dont see it happening.

Technically, Hurd is 6'3.5"; so that half inch doesn't matter much. It's all about the pad level anyways. It was stated multiple times on TV Sunday that he has great pad level and can get low.

i wonder why our staff told him he could play RB. Paulk must be really really good for us to only take 1 RB in 2 classes

Exactly, when ever he is taking on a defender he has a really low pad level. When he fumbled at the goal line is a good example of how low he gets on contact kids helmet just hit right on the ball. I saw people complaining about how up right he runs when he broke the long TD. Its hard to run full speed hunched over.

Let me be clear....Im elated that he's coming to UT, I just dont think he will play RB. It's not a knock against him, I just dont see it happening. No doubt he can come in and help us out right away, its just a question of where.

Do we have to go through this again? He will be a RB here, case closed. Yes, he is not the prototypical size for a RB, but neither were the others that have been successful at his size. IMO Stephen Jackson will be in the top 5 RBs this year in the NFL at 6'2" 240. I believe Hurd can play at 240 and not lose much speed, as he is a freak of an athlete. He has great vision and power, much like all the successful "bigger" RBs.

So where would you play him? Maybe we should just clone Jalen so he can play everywhere... Or just put him on the bench so everyone can say "I told you he was too tall to be a RB!"

Mainly I'm worried about the fact that he's already had two shoulder surgeries. I think he's well-conditioned, but his lanky frame will expose him to vicious hits. He's 230 but he's also 6'4", which is still pretty thin. He also tends to fall hard and awkwardly at times. His upside is huge. I just hope he has a healthy career. He does us no good on the bench.
