Hurd was not at 10/4 Practice....

On the surface, I'd generally agree that that's the philosophy with Jalen and our running game. However, the numbers don't support it. There's virtually no difference in Jalen's yards per carry in the first and second halves of games this year. In fact, I think he's averaging slightly more yards per carry in the first half to date. Either way, defenses certainly aren't surrendering anything and our running game with Jalen isn't wearing on anybody or hashing anybody late in games as compared to early in games.

I wasn't thinking of Jalen specific numbers. Please check and report back on the overall Vols offense first half vs second half numbers.

IMO, Jalen is beating down the defenses.

As one measure, the defenses we've played have had more second half cramps than Kappa Delta.

The ignorance on this board is perplexing. If CBJ said Jalen had a concussion, it would be fine. If I say it, I'm airing dirty laundry, trying to get Jalen's "supposed" money and am being selfish? Haha.

Jalen was benched due to his unruly attitude, right? Then, Jalen was benched due to a lower-body injury, right? I can, with 100% certainty, tell you it's neither of the two.

I'm sorry that some of you cannot grasp the thought that you're being deceived, but well, you are --- and you think I'm the bad guy.

I have no idea, at this point, if Jalen will be playing in 3 days, but if he's not, I can't wait to hear what reason that's given.

It takes quite an effort to overlook the immature on this site.

Please continue to post and keep the adults updated.

Thanks.

I think the troubling detail is that Jalen should not have played on that final kickoff with a concussion.

Just throwing my 2 cents out there. But if anyone watched the presser the other day. The Jalen Hurd question was the only question that was expanded on, and coach Jones looked very uncomfortable answering it. Maybe I am off. But it sure seemed that way to me. He definately acted like "move along, nothing to see here". But my gut feeling is this is far from the truth.

Meh, wouldn't worry about it. Happens all the time on VN. Someone posts a credible rumor or some credible inside info and there is a certain segment on VN that gets all angry about it because they don't like what they are reading. Also, the same folks that get all bent out of shape are nowhere to be seen when the info turns out to be spot on. It's laughable to see them get all angry at people posting information because they all crave it, otherwise they wouldn't be up in these threads like they are.

At any rate, I've been wrong on Jalen's injury since the UGA game and I don't care. I just hope he gets healthy soon and wish him the best.

Doesn't Butch talk with media on Wednesdays? The media usually asks about practice, injuries, and such so if Butch does speak (usually around noon) maybe he will clear up any confusion from this thread.

I don't know where the "get Jalen's ... money" came from but I didn't see anyone here mentioning that.

Though if CBJ does mention an injury yes that would be fine, but you doing it (assuming you are who you say you are) could be viewed as not fine. Same as family members who talk to the media about injuries in the pros.

To me, that is personal, and if I were Jalen I wouldn't want you speaking about how I feel physically or mentally, especially to the general public.

Assuming Hurd has/had a concussion its on the training staff to evaluate the players and they have the responsibility to keep a player off the field. Coaches are usually too into the game and do not have the medical training to make these kinds of decisions concerning a players ability to continue to play. As a result most (perhaps all) programs rely on the team doctor to make these calls and his decision prevails over the coaching staffs or the players. If Jalen had concussion symptoms and didn't report them is the only way I see the medical staff letting him back in the game given the current political climate regarding concussed players.

Or maybe he doesn't..... Which I would be completely OK with.

This is exactly why Butch is treating it like it is. He realizes Jalen shouldn't have went back in, and made up the story about the lower body injury. He also says Hurd is 100% full go for practice to keep the story consistent. It's fairly obvious Hurd hasn't been practicing.

I don't think Butch is wrong for covering it up, as I'm sure every coach would do the same. The only fault I see here is what happened Saturday when they put him back in.

This makes total sense to me. It sounds exactly like Butch. He doesn't put injured players on the field if he can help it.

I take everything I read here with a grain of salt. I don't take everything as truth, no matter who knows who or who is kin folk, but I can say concussion symptoms don't always show up immediately and players have been known to mask symptoms too, and I don't know many coaches that would knowingly put a player back in a game that has symptoms, I would be surprised if any of our coaches would do that. Hurd is a beast and is very valuable to the team and I hope whatever it is is healed, or worked out by Saturday, but if not, we certainly know "next man up".

I know legally these are adults, but still someones child, if it is a concussion and you as a fan saying "Nut UP Hurd",,, you are everything wrong with football fans.

right and I agree Butch doesn't have to say anything (his choice and he doesn't have to say anything about it) IMO Hurd is a key player to the team and I would hope that if something is going on that would keep Hurd from participating in football activities that something would be said. Do I think that we will get the truth if Butch decides to say something...not sure but that doesn't matter either because Butch will deal with it and we the fans don't have to know everything. If Hurd is injured it will come out soon, and if it is something else we will find out that as well in due time.

Obviously someone dropped the ball(no pun intended) and didn't let him know or downplayed it. Now he is covering.

Do you believe CBJ story of a lower extremity injury and that Hurd has been at practice all week?

The quoted post in post 172 in this thread.

From the hit he took on the fumble in the end zone, I believe that is where the concussion happened. On the TD pass he was hit coming out of the backfield which set off the symptoms. This is the only thing that makes since on how he looked and why he did not return to the game.

Almost one year to the day...we were all discussing Punchgate.

Can't we just have a normal October on this board?

There was a play later in the game where he got flipped and landed on his head. It was the one where his facemask was caked in grass and mud. If he indeed was concussed, that play is the most likely culprit.

Yet, he did return. As if it should matter (b/c this was possibly the biggest return opportunity of the year to date): does anyone know how many times he's been on the field as ko return team? I only know of this one.
