Guys he will live. We have no less than 4 backs on this roster who can all get it done. We also have some folks that can fill in if it came down to it. He'll be back for alasalami.

So, 247 said:

"Butch Jones declined to provide specifics Wednesday morning on the Southeastern Conference coaches’ teleconference, but he was ambiguous on the status of a key offensive player.

Asked directly by WNML’s Jimmy Hyams about the status of junior All-SEC tailback Jalen Hurd,

“Yeah, well, again, that was an end-of-the-game situation,” Jones said on the call. “We don’t comment on injuries.

“Jalen’s day to day.”

The end-of-game situation Jones referenced was Hurd playing on the Vols’ penultimate play at Georgia, when Evan Berry returned the short kickoff back into Bulldogs’ territory."

Josh and Will on the Sports Animal just said the situation was weird and that if it was a head injury he wouldn't have had his helmet all game and that he wouldn't have been on the final kickoff.

Josh said over and over he thought it was just Hurd in the doghouse and Butch saying anything other than an injury was coach just trying not to throw Hurd under the bus.

Just passing on what they are discussing.

First, I hope that Hurd is a go by kickoff. He is a battering ram who has the ability to soften run defenses. However, I think Kamara and Kelly give Tennessee more speed and versatility out of the backfield. They are probably more dangerous on the read-option because of each's ability to get to the edge. It would probably open up more room for Dobbs up the middle on the keeper.

At the beginning of the season TN was a SEC championship caliber team. Its so unfortunate that injuries will keep this team from achieving what was possible a few months ago. I feel terrible for team 120. They really gave their all.

In this game, what you just said is key. I feel like AK and JK can get out of the back field quicker than Hurd can (definitely not disputing that Hurd is more powerful). Getting around the edges and through the gaps against this D Line will be very important...I think we see John Kelly have somewhat of a coming out party if Hurd sits out this game.

Whose to say he didn't get hurt in the final kickoff? It sounds like a concussion to me. And, if it happened becore that play, UT needs to reexamine its concussion protocol ASAP to determine why he was still playing. In excusable in today's environment if that is what happened.

Jones is being weird about this--and he's apparently been somewhat dishonest about Hurd's situation, and one must ask: Why is he being weird and, perhaps, dishonest?

No he doesn't. He's the coach. He doesn't have to answer to you about this. Butch has a plan, and it's a good one.

Hopefully Hurd is ready to go come game time. If not it will be nice to see what Kelly can do with some extended playing time
