Hurd is a waste of a Down

He is still a good back. I do believe he has regressed some this year. Have no idea why but looks uncomfortable on the sidelines and really seemed lost at times. Since the injury or what ever he looks more so than ever. He and Kamara should stay another year because neither will make a NFL team in my opinion.

love hurd, but here is the thing I think he is more of an I formation back, would love to see him get the ball with a fullback in front of him, he is a better fit for that. Kamara and Kelly on the other hand are better backs out of the spread we run.

looks like he's lost a step from last year IMO. with his size and not having top end speed to begin with, a step slower makes the world of difference.

Hurd has over 2400 yds during a 3 year stretch of some of the worst offensive lines in UT history. How quickly people forget him stuff arming tackles, carrying defenders for extra yardage and moving the pile. I agree that kamara needs to get the ball more. We should have them both I the backfield in most situations. Blame poor play calling, but don't blame Hurd
They will just bring an extra defender into the box.

Its a pretty predictable play on 1st down --- even if its not Hurd --- its a run up the middle and its not fooling anyone

THE problem starts and ends with the offensive line. We are decimated and had two freshmen playing on the offensive line today as well as a few other young guys. No one is going to do much behind that.

It's quite true Hurd isn't a good match for this offense, he simply does not have the speed to be a really dominate back IN THIS offense. He is simply playing out of position. So to the point of the thread, Hurd is a waste of a down, IF all we're gonna do is that stupid dive play on first down and then try to run him East and west. He's simply not built for that and it's a disservice to his talents.

I would like to see this offense as a pro set with Hurd as a fullback and Kamara as the tailback. Of course, that would mean another qb as well, and that's not going to happen. So, it's pointless....

Hurd is a wishbone or I-formation back, not this read option crap. Good player, physical, strong, full of heart...in the wrong offense.

These are the threads that I see all of the idiot volunteer fans. If you really blame Jalen Hurd and not our O-Line and Mike Debord then you don't know anything about football.

Hurd probably has to have a little bigger hole and a hole open for a little longer than John or Alvin. Our o line is killing him. I do think Kelly and AK can probably get through the type of holes our o line is opening easier

Why? Would you please tell me why?

I'm going to let you answer the question. It's where our problem has been and will continue to be.

We didn't play the 68th rush defense in the nation tonight, folks. 700 yards of offense, and people thought we were amazing. No, their defense was garbage.

Jalen doesn't want to be here right?

Glad next week is a bye week. I have read enough of these crazy threads. Hurd needs to heal. I will take him as a back any and every day of the week

This is my opinion too. I am still puzzled why we ran this at least half a dozen times in the Outback Bowl but never developed it more this year. Was it just for laughs?

It was designed to placate Jalen amd keep him from transferring at the end of last season.

I believe Hurd has Justin Hunter disease. What I mean is he is playing cautiously as not to get hurt for NFL. After Hunters sophomore injury we never saw the same player. I know the injury would probably had some to do with it, but in my opinion the effort was never the same.

Where was he supposed to run yesterday? Please show me the holes that he, Alvin or Josh had to run through. Because he didn't drag 8 Alabama D-lineman and linebackers with him on each play, he's not the same?

The problem wasn't that we had a freshmen O-line playing a senior Alabama D-line, it was because Jalen's not a good RB

Haha, dumbest bunch of people I have ever seen.

I agree the holes weren't there, the lines were out matched. But this whole season....he couldn't dominate against Ohio or App State. How did Kamara look explosive in his lone start. I believe the only reason he is starting is because butch wants to say he coaches UT's leading rusher. That would lead one to believe his system creates rushing machines when in truth the first two years hurd was best the best we had and our only tool.

Hurd is a power back. AK has agility and strength. Hurd's "problem" is the line. If you put Hurd behind UA's O-Line he'd be averaging 7 to 12 ypc.

Because our O-Line is decimated, and because the scheme we run requires so much reading and immediate adjusting by the O-Line, AK has the natural agility and vision to make "things" look better than they really are.

We're lucky we have Hurd. Even under the above restrictions, he's put up some really impressive numbers.

Hurd has done a lot for this program and for the better part of 3 years, he was the lone bright spot. He's earned each and every yard on his stat sheet.

The problem is our O-Line and the ridiculous play calling scheme that Botch and Debord are so keen on sticking to. It's the same reason why Dobbs struggles when he's handcuffed into trying to play as pocket passer and not given any ability to make things happen on his own. Hurd suffers from it just as much and given our play calls, Defenses know what's coming 90% of the time. Maybe a little bit of his problem is frustration with this mess, but at this point I can't blame him.

After what Kamara done last week there's no way in hell I'd pull him out just to put Hurd back in. I understand Hurd earned his spot, but our offensive line can't hold up to help him. Kamara, on the other hand has the speed, and agility to get by them. The 300+ yards last week proved that. If it ain't broke don't fix it! Give the guy the ball and keep fanning the fire while it's hot

I just don't get why the oline is as bad as it is,,,,these are 4 years worth of BUTCH recruits...I know injuries but still his back ups...this line is Dooley-esque.

Hurd lacks vision and isnt quick enough to make people miss. He is a straight line runner. Love the guy but gotta call a spade a spade

I agree that Butch, DeBord, and especially our O-line deserve much of the blame, but Hurd just goes down immediately.
