Hurd deserves respect

Hurd wasn't hot-doggin' it. He thought he was all alone and was coasting in. It's just like when Malone eased up and trotted into the end-zone a couple of weeks ago when he thought he was all alone (which, of course, he was).

I think Butch needs to tell everyone not just to run across the goal line on any and every kind of play. They also need to keep running full speed until they cross the back line. That will keep them running hard the whole way and will ALSO keep them from ever dropping the ball before they hit the end-zone.

I'm not bashing Hurd one bit. I'm puzzled as to why a media member who spoke to team sources reported that he had not been tended to by the medical staff well after he had not played several series. And if he was actually tended to for concussion protocol then why does Butch fudge on the injury. There's no benefit whatsoever.

No point in carrying on this ridiculous argument.

If Hurd is injured (for a concussion) then it was misreported, I stand corrected and hope he gets well because we need him for the next 2 in a big way.

Why share player status with the media? Georgia puts up a tarp/tent to hide their players while they're being treated. If Hurd was slightly injured, badly injured, or not at all injured there is no benefit gained by tipping off Georgia what Hurd's status is during the game.

Agree with what you say. BUT is it necessary to call everyone that does not agree with idiots. Seems to me to only devalue what you have said before, because all these folks are not idiots!

Nailed the majority of them tho. :)

Thankfully they had one TO left or their bomb would have been the last play. So glad they didn't do time runoff!

That was a strange twist. But TN's defense could have been played differently on the Georgia TD bomb had there been 9 seconds remaining rather than 19. Also, had they used all three TOs they would have started the drive with about 40 more seconds. It was a perfect storm of events.

Burning clock and forcing Georgia to use their three time outs was the correct strategy. Getting risky with play calls would be stupid and one incomplete pass adds about 40 seconds for Georgia to beat you.

Disagree. We needed one first down. 3 up the middles was too predictable. This is proven as correct cause the dawgs got the ball back and scored! If the Vols get one first down, then they can either go up the middle or the V formation.

By getting "risky" I suppose you mean doing anything that is not up the middle? Please. This is the spineless thinking that got us beat against Oklahoma and FL last year.

Deboard has shown so far he only passes when we are down. That's why we are always coming back from a deficit! If we are up, he is too conservative and tries to hang on by not losing instead of playing to win. That's how it is. We need a hail marry to win, should have controlled the clock by maintaining possession.

They weren't all up the middle Genius.

Passing on 1st down would have been a boneheaded call. Then after Georgia did not call a TO and 40 seconds run off the clock, attempting a pass on 2nd down would be just as dumb. On 3rd down a very safe pass option was reasonable... but again, by far the odds of winning the game by getting a first down passing instead of running weren't as good as burning time and time outs to put the freshman QB in an unlikely position to win.

Maybe you need to review the game or will you just insist on giving your argument validity?

They weren't sweeps what do you call north and south into the line of scrimmage?

Like I said, control the ball and control the clock by getting one first down.

You said it was the right call by not giving GA time to score, well they scored didn't they. Too conservative.

81 yard drives and a little over a minute with freshmen QBs throwing game winning bombs happen all of the time, don't they?

I found it really disrespectful that the announcers kept implying that he was benched for his mental error in the 2nd quarter... please. Kamara fumbled too and they got points off that, yet I don't recall the announcers ever bringing that up. Nor did they really care to mention that Hurd came back and scored in the in 3rd quarter, they mentioned it once directly after the TD but that was it...they'd rather imply he was benched than figure out the more realistic reason...injury.

In six months, this whole board will be begging for Hurd to return for his senior year. We are going miss him when he's gone.

Hurd is a stud. The way he dragged the whole Gator defense to the 5 yard line and roared afterward showed he still has the fire and the physicality.

Even yesterday, if you watch the route he ran on his TD, it looks like it wasn't designed to go to him. He stuck with the play and provided an outlet.

Hurd plays with a lot of pride. The same reason he was telling UGA players to "bring it on" when he was in Athens as a true freshman, picking up blocks behind an abysmal OL. Sometimes you get caught in a moment and underestimate the situation.

Let the gas off on one play and paid for it. Big picture: has busted his azz for 3 years, doesn't showboat, doesn't trash talk, blocks like a mofo, work horse of a running back in a scheme that frequently leaves him fighting like hell to get back to the LOS, reliable, has won multiple games for us, and is still likely to be the all-time leading rusher in UT history. I'd bet nobody is more unhappy or embarrassed with that play than him. The small number of fans trash talking him and seeming to delight in him "getting benched" suck.

Agree

You realize vol74 is Hurds uncle right? He probably has a pretty good idea what's going on with him.

As for the injury it's worse to say concussion protocol stuff imo. Just Butch protected him from having to answer a bunch of questions about it

Really, Kamara's hand was hot? Lol You mean his 3.8 yards per carry hot?

I get it, you're supporting Jalen and what happened yesterday. We all know where we'd be without him. He's a stud and busts his tail for the Vols.

However, demeaning Kamara is unnecessary. I'm damn glad he's on the team and a VFL. By the way, Kamara's average rush per carry is 4.3 yards (35 long) while Hurd's 4.0 (28 long) so they're pretty close.
