Hurd concussion question

Since the Georgia game, I have been under the impression that Hurd probably suffered a concussion when he got blindsided. And I read comments on here that state matter-of-factly that he did have a concussion. But then I think Hurd went back into the GA game later (even scored a TD?), but then he didn't play against TxAM the next week. Then we got that whole he's injured / he's not injured BS going back and forth.

Does anyone know for a fact if he did or did not suffer a concussion?

I am curious a bit b/c it would have the ability to impact some of his actions, and it could give more credence to the idea that he's tired of the risk of playing RB. I've kinda figured Butch was trying to cover for the internal issues with Jalen by claiming he's injured and letting people assume it was a concussion, but if it was a legit injury then that would explain some things.

(Side note: Hey Butch, you have GOT to work on your press conference lying skills. Whether it's lying about lower body and upper body extremities or cleat-tweets, you suck at it.)

If he did have a concussion why did he sit on a bench by himself with no teammates and no trainers? They had Allie Laforce stalking him the entire game after that and she said no one came to His aide. Hmm seems to me he took himself out after he got *****ed at for fumbling and then threw a tempter tantrum, but what do I know apparently I have an agenda to feed

Hurd gave his all for Tennessee for two and one half years. We should be grateful for the time he spent here. A concussion should scare any football player. We should respect his decision to make a change. Besides, it is a fad today for a player to switch schools for his senior year. So, show some class and stop bashing him. We have other good running backs.

A fad? Name players who switch schools in their junior year that haven't already graduated or gotten in a lot of trouble....


I choose the believe what Jones has said and basically from what all the players have tweeted about and commented about. Even then though, even if it happened just like that and he quit and had the attitude issues, he should be thanked for what he has given this University.

Let's pretend for a moment that you are Butch Jones. Let's also pretend that you have a prima-donna on the team, that needs to be benched. Let's also pretend that this player, has been giving his all, up until recently.

Do you go to the press and say "I benched him because his attitude isn't right and he'll play when he does the necessary things required of him to get back on the team".

In doing that, you just threw him under the bus. Maybe he threw himself under the bus, but it gets ugly for that player at that point.

OR do you LIE?

He's hurt. Extremity (non-specific). What that LIE does is buy time for the said player to get back in the fold with a good "out" if he decides to stay, work and play.

Is that a bad lie?

The press isn't entitled to every little thing that goes on between players, coaches and teams, nor are the fans. I think Butch was buying some time for said player to get his head out of his you-know-what and be a team player. Apparently that didn't happen. You know the rest of the story.

Hurd dived into the pile of players celebrating the Hail Mary at the end of the game as well. If hurt, he could have gotten hurt there.

He's not a grad transfer like you're talking about. He's a 3rd year Jr that's not graduating. What he's doing is highly unusual.

the reality is, he is headed to the NFL in the spring. He is not going anywhere else for two more years of delay to NFL.

Of course you lie to the media there. And in other situations. My point is that Butch is not GOOD at the lying part. How he does it. Of course, I guess if this was the real world and not football, we'd be praising him for being a bad liar. Ha. It's obvious that the Kongbo explanation is a lie, and I'm fine with that. Good, cover for the kid. But if you're going to do that, don't throw out such an obvious lie...

I would normally agree as this makes total sense. However, Hurd's surrogates speaking to media and publishing on message boards have been total fools IMO. If they have his ear and apparently they do, something totally outlandishly foolish could happen for this youngster.

Would be nice if you're venting had been related to what was posted. Asking if anyone has officially confirmed a concussion or not. Not bashing Jalen. Asking.

I'll assume you don't know either.

I don't know that I could fully believe either side of this story. However, I find it hard to believe that in this day and age, with all the focus and attention on concussions and protocols, that the University would dig itself this deep in a cover up if that's what really happened.

It would be essentially medical malpractice against the medical staff if he was allowed to participate after showing signs or symptoms of head injury. Not sure any individual of that staff would put their license to practice on the line for that.

I agree with Greg McElroy that Jalen Hurd will be remembered as a quitter. Football is a team sport and he let his teammates down and ruined his NFL future. No team wants a self important weenie with that attitude. Maybe he can get a contract with the pro treadmill league.

I, too, have a hard time believing the concussion story. When you have a concussion, or even "thought" to have one....you have an army of people, doctors and trainers all over you asking questions and evaluating you. NONE of that happened. He went back in for one play, scored the touchdown, then was back in for the last kickoff return. If he has a concussion, trainers take your helmet and hide it. NO WAY do you get back in the game without getting full clearance from doctors and trainers. Even IF he had an issue (which I doubt), he was cleared to go back in the game. For these reasons, I call bs on him missing the A&M game because of that.

Again, I have NO inside info, just years of playing and coaching experience dealing with those issues.

Hurd did not have concussion. He just had a prolonged brain fart that eventually got him kicked out of the team.

Hurd may have actually had a concussion but it doesn't change the fact that he told off his coaches and thought he was king shlt.

If his helmet had been taken away from him, he was under a concussion protocol.

You think concussions caused him to disrespect his coaches, and he missed the trip to A&M due to injury? How many other injured players ruled out to play make the trip? Jalen being left behind had Jack Crap to do with injury. But if you will buy that, I got a 85 Yugo in great shape you can have for 20K. I will even throw in free floor mats!

I saw a video yesterday from Hurd's stepfather where he said Hurd did have a concussion in GA game, but it wasn't the blind sided hit. It was sometime later in the game.

His stepfather created the video to dispel the rumor that he and Butch got into an argument on the sideline.

Take it for what it's worth - could be the truth or his step dad covering up Hurd's attitude.

It looks like the video has now been deleted so I can't post a link.

This!! Hurd will never play another down of college football. He's headed to the NFL combine. This whole "transferring" thing is just a cover for his either straight up quitting the team or being booted. I hope he does well and makes a ton of money. On the whole he helped Tennessee get back to respectability. Too bad he couldn't have made it work for another couple of months and just left on good terms and a VFL.

Gotta agree with you on this one, no coach in this day and age is going to risk losing their job or be named in a lawsuit because of a concussion.

For people to say he had one and then the coaches and trainers allowed him to go back in would be career suicide on all their parts.
