Tennessee junior running back Jalen Hurd "passed his exertional testing" this week and should be available to play against top-ranked Alabama on Saturday, a source told The News Sentinel.
Hurd missed last weekend’s game against Texas A&M with an undisclosed injury.
Hurd was wearing a green non-contact jersey during the two portions of practice open to the media on Tuesday afternoon. Fellow running back Alvin Kamara was also wearing a green jersey.
Linebacker Darrin Kirkland Jr. wasn’t wearing a green jersey, but had his right ankle heavily taped. Kirkland Jr. has missed Tennessee’s last four games with a high-ankle injury.
Tennessee coach Butch Jones said last week that Kirkland Jr. had a chance to return to play against Alabama.
Other observations from practice:

After committing seven turnovers in their double-overtime loss to Texas A&M, the Vols said they will continue to stress the importance of ball security. During special teams drills, Jones instructed, “Chin the ball, chin the ball, chin the ball."
Considering the team’s injury situation, stretching can’t be taken lightly. “Focus Marquill. Focus on the stretch,” Jones said to freshman defensive back Marquill Osborne.*

We will need his physicality this Saturday against Bamas front 7. He helped up nearly beat them last year and was able to run for over 5 yards a carry and for nearly 100. We will need him

I like the way Kelly ran inside after he got hit by the 1st defender he didn't go down like Hurd does sometimes..........plus Kelly has that "quick twitch" to his feet in which he alludes some hits........

Is there generally a certain number of practices a player needs to make for them able to play? I. The case of a concussion is it just a matter of them clearing protocol? Even if that doesn't happen until Friday?

How did Hurd look practicing with the Tight Ends? I know the coaches moved him after reading on Volnation that AK and Kelly are the best RB's now, and Hurd is too tall...

He did pretty good, but coaches said they better keep him at rb since he is is one of the best in the nation and may become the best RB in UT history.
