Has anybody heard if JH has had his ACL surgery yet? Just curious, I figured he would have had it by now..

I know they have to wait until the swelling goes down, etc, and maybe they're just being cautious.

The way I see it, the sooner he gets the surgery and starts rehab, the sooner he'll be ready to get back into shape for the spring...

May have to do with HIPAA privacy.

Still, I am sure we will hear when it takes place.

I figured the hungry hungry HIPPO would rear its ugly head.. Although when it comes to surgeries, typically that news gets out pretty fast.

got to wait for swelling to go down. I dont know about his case personally, but it takes a few weeks before you can operate on

usually about 2 weeks after injury they operate, but dont worry, he is already rehabbing. Rehab at this point it just maintaining range of motion of the joint so it does not get stiff with all the swelling.

Not sure when he is scheduled. When I had mine replaced, they waited almost 4 weeks after the injury for the reasons listed above. Mainly, decreasing the swelling, but more importantly, ensuring a full range of motion prior to repairing/replacing. The range of motion you have pre-op is about what you can expect early in the post-op period, so they want range of motion to be as great as possible.

I think it is scheduled for today.. he has been reahabbing already. rehab prior to surgery helps the post surgery rehab go quicker. that is why they have been waiting.

its a long shot that he does very much in spring. no need to risk it for a talent like him. He doesn't need to be hit before fall

It might be the difference between a contact tear and a non-contact tear.

Some of the reasons listed above are right. I've known student-athletes who wait til a break in school (Fall Break, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.) to have the surgery so they have some time to recoup before having to go to class.

They've already said he would practice in spring but he wouldn't be in contact. He can still run routes and practice on getting his strength and agility back.

It took nearly a month to have mine operated on of course I wasnt a DIV I beast at WR on a tradition rich school's roster, so that may have been a reason

KNOXVILLE - The University of Tennessee athletic department announced today that sophomore wide receiver Justin Hunter underwent successful surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee. Hunter suffered the injury during the first quarter of Tennessee's game at Florida on September 17.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Greg Mathien and Dr. Russell Betcher of the Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic at UT Medical Center. Hunter is expected to return in time to participate in spring practice.

A 6'4, 200-pound receiver from Virginia Beach, Va., Hunter has 17 receptions for 314 yards and two touchdowns this season in three games. In 16 games played over two seasons with the Vols from 2010-11, he has 33 catches for 729 yards and nine touchdowns.

The reason to wait is to regain full range of motion preop. If you don't you risk arthrofibrosis, which is excess scar tissue leading to severe stiffness. Typically surgery has to be delayed at least 10-14 days to get motion back.
