Hunter as Punt Returner

Our special teams is awful, Hunter won't be returning anything. He's back there to be sure hands for the fair catch. Young has no highlight returns because he has no time to do anything but wave his hand. If they could actually return it then CP should be back there all day but that's not the case.

Dont quite like how he runs backwards alot of times evens as a reciever - he was injured last season doing the same thing - why the WR coach cant correct this is beyond me - they got to notice it

Volquest suggests that JH will be returning punts until Devrin is ready to play and may be doing some of that duty even when Devrin returns.

My question is why put JH back there instead of CP? Beyond that, why put JH back there at all?

The incremental risk of injury is scary in both cases, but especially with JH, who has already lost a year to an ACL tear. Plus, CP is clearly the superior runner, and the mantra seems to be to find ways to get him more touches.

Maybe it's a ball control issue. My high school coach had a simple answer to this sort of dilemma: Never return punts. Put nobody back there and no one fumbles and no one gets hurt.

On the other hand, maybe it's just another stupid, thoughtless, shortsighted decision by this coaching staff.

HANDS. Very likely they've tried this and he cannot consistently field the punt. Fair catch > turnover

Hunter returning punts.... That's like me using a 6000$ mower to bush hog !
May be faster, and look pretty ... But all I'm doing is destroying my finest equipment !

Nuff Said.

Why not put AJ back there , in a return beast package with CP back'n him up . But with Hunter back there it is good for him cause he likes to run backwards and fall down after he catches a ball , so why not . I would like to see them do some reverse's on kickoff's and punt returns though , IMO .

Hunter prob can catch it the best......

They are not worried about the best/fastest/strongest returner...

They just want someone who can catch the punt 100% of the time

And right now its JH, get over it!!!

And for those who want CP to do it.....Gah he cant be in every play of the game, he has to rest at some point.

Hunter did a decent job on punt return vs Troy. Who knows? He may have asked for it as a way to hone his skills for the NFL. Everything else he's done this year has been with an eye to April.

Yes. All of those dropped passes and half assing have made him a huge draft prospect.

NO, Hunter is another Chris Johnson from the Titans. You touch the guy and he is down. No breaking tackles whatsoever.
