Volquest suggests that JH will be returning punts until Devrin is ready to play and may be doing some of that duty even when Devrin returns.
My question is why put JH back there instead of CP? Beyond that, why put JH back there at all?
The incremental risk of injury is scary in both cases, but especially with JH, who has already lost a year to an ACL tear. Plus, CP is clearly the superior runner, and the mantra seems to be to find ways to get him more touches.
Maybe it's a ball control issue. My high school coach had a simple answer to this sort of dilemma: Never return punts. Put nobody back there and no one fumbles and no one gets hurt.
On the other hand, maybe it's just another stupid, thoughtless, shortsighted decision by this coaching staff.
