Lawyer Says UT Football Player Did Not Start Fight
Posted: Jul 10, 2010 10:39 PM EST

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- The attorney for one of the UT football players involved in the bar brawl in Knoxville says his client did not start that fight.

Attorney Greg Issacs says Montori Hughes was attacked without his alleged attacker being provoked. Montori Hughes is a freshman defensive tackle at UT, and has not been interviewed nor charged by Knoxville Police.

The fight happened early Friday morning at "Bar Knoxville" on the Cumberland Strip near the UT campus.

Teammates Da'Rick Rogers and Darren Myles were both arrested. The fight left an off-duty Knoxville police officer unconscious.

Greg Isaacs has confirmed that Judas was a true friend to Jesus. He has also confirmed that Obama loves tax and spending cuts.

Some are indicating that he is likely in bigger trouble than originally thought. What has happened to foster that opinion?

I missed a day and somehow I come back and many think he's gone. Where does that notion come from? New info? Anything confirmed?

Sjt, by now, you know you cannot miss a day here. You've got to pay more attention! The program is falling apart, but CDD just might be the guy to pick up the pieces. If not, somebody else will. :hi:

Clueless much? I was under the impression Jackson was cleared of any wrong doing. Just a rumor though.

Janzen Jackson was in more junk than that one event...hanging out with punks....that was my point....he was into trouble more than that one time Suzy! It took that ignorant robbery attempt to hopefully open his eyes to the light. Then these kids do this....so I ask you are you clueless much? Always a smart lip keyboard coward on here. So here is to you :the_finger: and I'm sure you're used to it.

Are you saying he is gay? If not, TVA...I mean RasputinVol will be here soon to kick your rear into recognition of the proper linguistics in these matters.

Hubbs is saying that he has spoken to someone that says there is a good chance that Hughes won't be charged. That is VERY good news, though I am surprised he has heard it. Even if he isn't charged, this doesn't mean he is in the clear football wise, but it's a lot better than what some reports have suggested could happen.

Regardless, I don't think Rogers sees any significant punishment. Once more official accounts of the events come out, that could change, but it seems that won't be the case.

Thats awsome. i think the damage has been done. if you listened to dooley in the presser he said that he kicked off myles and suspended walls and king " and then we took other meassures internally" wich is coach speek for saying we are done and are going to handle the rest within the team...

i think we have seen the worst of it. i dont think the kpd wants to demolish our beloved vols...:salute:

I honestly didn't read Dooley's press conference in that way. I fully expected (and still expect) further punishment to be doled out. However, this is still good news for MH, if true.

Hope your right TT. Or Hubbs in this case. Didn't see much positive yesterday on the Hughes front. Time will tell.

He probably wouldn't have hired Greg Issacs immediately after the incident if he wasn't expecting to be charged. I wouldn't put much stock in what Hubbs is saying.

So..really we are all waiting around to see who kicked the unconscious, off-duty officer while he was down. That is the long and the short of it.

I was under the impression that Myles hit him, then kicked him several times, then fled, according to witnesses?

I'm sure at this point Dooley has a clear picture of what happened after talking privately with multiple players. He took the immediate action he needed to and will now make sure nothing more comes to light.

Given the nature of the injury sustained by the officer, I'm afraid we only scratched the surface in regards to public information. I expect a few more bombshells before all is said and done.

Hughes was not arrested and as far as I know was not charged by police. Unless they can get some video proof or other proof other than drunk witnesses, I don't really see anything happening to him. JMO of course. I didn't even see a police report on Hughes. I saw one on John Brown, but nothing is really being said about him as far as I know. I didn't see one on Greg King or Marlon Walls either and they are suspended, so not sure that means anything. I guess we will just have to wait and see, but I wouldn't be surprised if nobody else gets dismissed. I believe Myles might be the only one, and he deserved to be gone. It was in the report he assaulted a police officer and this was his second arrest in 3 months.

Yeah, I'm guessing that at this point the police have been waiting to see the extent of his damage and going over all the details very carefully before they make the charges because this is probably going to be very bad for whomever they charge.

And you might be dead on Lex. However, again with no video and drunk witnesses, I'm not sure if this will ever be clear enough to charge anyone else. But then again, I'm sure there is a whole lot more to the story than what we are being told.

If the injured party was treated and released, you might be right. Given the severity of the injury I would imagine they will keep digging until they find out what happened. I don't think their findings will be kept under wraps.

I watched an old dateline episode the other day about a fight that left a young surfer kid dead. It was basically a punch between friends or at least aquaintances, one punch knocked the kid out and when his head smacked the concrete it caused severe brain injury and resulted in the kid dying.

The guy that hit him got 2nd degree murder and 20-life because of his checkered past and one bad luck punch.

One punch and a couple of kicks to the right places can cause serious injuries. Hopefully the guy recovers, the appropriate actions have been dealt to the people involved, and we can move along and get ready for fall.
