Hugh Freeze random guess thread (merged)

Then we're going to be throwing out some names we have to google.... Cant hire Freeze due to baggage but we will hire Sark lol
Hell..... is Howard Schnellenberger still alive?
He was good with the Dolphins and the U.

Something I don't fully understand about sports agents, Sexton represents Taggart, Pruitt and Saban, all of whom are pursuing Sexton client Freeze. Success or failure in hiring Freeze will probably have a significant effect on the tenure of Taggart and Pruitt in their current jobs, maybe Taggart more then Pruitt. So how can one agency work in the best interest of all of these clients who have competing interests. Maybe each client brings outside counsel to the party, but then what are you paying the agent for?

What's funny to me is what's on some of Auburn's forums. Apparently, the admin over there is the reason THEY can't sign Freeze. Must be a big conspiracy of all the top brass for all colleges. At least it isn't isolated to just Knoxville.

Bryant going to Mizzou didn't help over there with their conspiracy theories either.

You negotiate what's best for the client in front of you. Right now, that's Freeze. You don't tie their futures together.

Freeze is the client at this point. The other three are suitors. JS is working for HF in these negotiations. The other universities have their attorneys at the table, not JS.

You'd hope we could get some "home cooking" once in a while since he's a UT guy, but that certainly seems to be more the opposite here lately.

It is a dance for sure, but I’m sure each client is aware what Jimmy has done for them and that he has that same job to do for Hugh. I would bet he is being honest with all of them because he wants them to know about other suitors to get a more solid deal for HF. He’s not “selling” HF to the coaches, they will interview and decide whether or not thats the guy. If they don’t want him nothing Jimmy can do to change that. His job is to float the name and then get a bidding war. It happens all the time and those clients understand that Jimmy can’t give them a “deal” because he is also their agent. They all understand the business side. Jimmy is very good at managing those relationships and expectations.

I guess. I just dont know how to so narrowly define the scope of the agency to where my only responsibility is to get you a contract and help you enforce terms if there is a breach but otherwise I can do things for other clients that are contrary to your interests. Why would any potential client agree to that? Unless, maybe, there was collusion among the clients that enabled to agent to have an effective monopoly? Just a hard one to figure out.

I do not have any sources, nor do I have "insider" info. However, based on a few observstions and assessing recent hires and moves at other places, I think the OC will be Matt Canada. I say this because:

1) his offenses target the best players available and accentuates those players' ability, much like Pruitt's philosophy on defense, and

2) the wait was to see what Maryland was going to do, make him the HC or hire someone else, which they have now done, and

3) he has SEC experience, it was a slow start at LSU, but improved once he was given more freedom by Coach O, and

4) his offensive schemes are proven, look how he helped get Peterman drafted! I compare it much to how Kiffin helped Crompton get on an NFL team. Basically, exploit a players' strengths and adapt to what you have to work with.

Whether it is Canada, or someone else, who knows? Again, I am only speculating based on observations. I am probably wrong, but just thought I would share my two cents.

GO VOLS!!!!
