Mike Hamilton has to make a HUGE splash when hiring the next head coach. Peterson, Calhoun, Patterson, Muschamp...........I don't think any of them are ready to compete against the big boys in the SEC.

I don't know who the answer is right now, but the FIRST person I would call, would be Gruden. Throw the kitchen sink at him.

Hammy is going to be in some hot water over this. He may not have to wonder about who he is going to hire next.

Hamilton should call chucky and say NAME YOUR PRICE. It probably wont work but Hamiltons job is on the line with this hire.

And after he finishes laughing, who do you call next?

I can't believe we are back to this..."Hamilton needs to make a big hire" thing again. I am not ripping the OP, I just can't believe we have to find another coach again. I know time is a luxury that Mike Hamilton does not have, but I worry about a knee jerk hire. Hopefully we can get lucky.

There were several VERY credible people that said Gruden was interested last year. However, he was still with the Bucs when Kiffin was hired.

Woody Paige said he spoke with Gruden about it and he was interested.

Not gonna happen, and I don't get the infatuation with him. He won a Super Bowl with Dungy's team and the team slowly drifted into oblivion afterward.

And the Raiders went to the Superbowl with Gruden's team. See how this works?

Gruden or Lovie were the first 2 that came to mind...then Peterson, Harbaugh, Patterson or Muschamp...in that order.

Gruden would cost...but the thing about paying more...it means it's harder for other teams to come calling...especially if they are on the hook for their salaries for a few years.

I think that was one glaring cock-up Hamilton made with CLK. At just $2mill/yr (when Meyer and Saban make over $4 mill), it's easy to see that Hammy low-balled him.
If he were making more like 3-3.5 mill, it would be harder for him to jump at USC...but it's water under the bridge at this point.

Yeah...as I stated before...Hammy low-balled him at less than what Fulmer was making. $2mill/yr is middle of the road...not top tier team level pay.

Not sure what USC offered him, but to some degree, the damage had already been done I think. When you low ball someone, it does little to foster loyalty

I still believe that we could have landed Chucky in 2008 if he were out of job at TB by the time that UT's HC position became open. Now he is out of coaching job. I don't see why we shouldn't go after him 110% percent. $4M per year be should acceptable to both parties.

My thoughts about next UT head football coach remain the same as in 2008: I am kind of superstitious to former NFL head coaches. Outside this group of people I only like Jim Harbaugh
