There were so many times during the Jones era where we headed into a game against a cupcake and thought “okay, we’ll get a big lead and then get the freshman QB some experience, let everyone play, build some depth, etc.” But then we’d play down to the level of the competition and limp into the 4th quarter up 13-10 which forced Dobbs and the other starters to go the whole way. This game was like the old UT. Got a huge lead early and a lot of guys got to play. That rarely happened under Butch, Oh, and on a couple of goal line TDs, the OL blew ETSU off the line, again like the old UT. I know they started slow but (surprise!) we adjusted. Yes, we may still go 4-8 but that was such an encouraging sign. Well done, boys. GO VOLS!

2017: we got a 28-0 lead on Indiana State before half time. We win 42-7

2016: Beat TTU 55-0

2015: Beat Western Carolina 55-10

2014: beat Utah State 38-7

I’m not getting excited until after we beat Florida. I feel Pruitt is 100% our guy but this year won’t influence my opinion on him at all. Next year I’m judging him.

I’m going to steal a line from a very wise man. This is year 0.

Yeah, I knew we had a few blowouts under Jones. But we did let some inferior teams take us to the wire. Hopefully, that won't happen (much) under Pruitt.

It's ETSU you, man. They are a FCS team who had their football program reinstated just a few years ago. This was nothing more than a glorified scrimmage. Don't try and make them into something that they're not. They can't even hold the jockstrap of a top tier FCS team let alone a bottom tier AAC team.

Had to click on to see what the huge positive was... am encouraged after yesterday, and hope we continue development thru the season. Crazy, but we go thru the entire off season, which seems like lasts forever, while I'm waiting to be vindicated for my orange colored favoritism, and then get dose of reality in week 1. Mentally, I find myself wanting to fast forward to UF, then to the next potentially win-able game, which is probably SC. Next thing you know, the season's over, and I'm counting down to signing day. I've about decided to try and just enjoy the season as long as we keep getting better and playing hard, whether we win or lose... but just don't know if it's possible.

Yes. Focus on the improvement. Look at the scheme and decisions made by the staff. The guys may not always execute how we want but if the coaches are making sound decisions and calls then you can see the future success. Under Butch we had to try and validate the mind boggling decisions he was making and operate on faith. With these guys we can see they make sound decisions. If they can do that the rest will follow. Worst case I see Pruitt like Muschamp. Can recruit and field a good D but can he let his O do work and handle the rest of the HC job. That's not a bad situation comparatively. Muschamp left UF loaded for macelwain

Sounds like you prematurely come to the decision that we will not beat Florida

Lol, you crack me up dude. You get on here just to disagree with anything and everything that is posted. Literally EVERYTHING. In my 7 years on this board, I don’t think I’ve personally witnessed you acknowledge someone being right. Carry on.....
What you said what factually incorrect. I agree with things that are correct. My guess you tried to hype up the coaching ability of CJP by saying if it were CBJ it would have been a close game, then you were proven wrong. Fact is all coaches have those close games with no name teams from time to time and CBJ was no different, but most of them he blew out.

CJP may well be the next coming of General Neyland but what he has fielded so far isnt very good and trying to make him look better with some BS stats from CBJ isnt working.

Glad i crack you up though, thats what im here for.

And i do agree with alot of people. I just generally like their comments instead of replying to them. Who whats to read a bunch of "i agree" comments?

Good points. I'm with you on Pruitt too. I may have conveniently forgotten Butch minimal victories over cupcakes, and this may be a reach...but to me, it seems like there's more intent in Pruitt's plan for younger guys to get playing time early in the season. At least he certainly explains it better.

One thing pretty evident early in the season is that there's alot of guys who got big jobs to fix/take over programs who have struggled in first two weeks...UT, UF, UCLA, Fl St, ARK, etc... I like Pruitt and I like our assistant coaches, and with the backing of investments of UTAD and passion of fans, they just need to hold it together long enough to get their type of players in Knoxville.

Yeaaaaah but c'mon, ETSU is an FCS program. That's like, one hell of a big cupcake. With tons of frosting. UT's OL *should* have been blowing them off the line (and it's a lot different blowing ETSU off the line, versus the "old UT" blowing Auburn or Georgia or Alabama off the line). I can understand wanting to be excited about that final score but that was a glorified scrimmage.

Nah, I’m just cautiously optimistic about beating Florida. What have we done this year to show that we can beat them? Nothing. What have they done to show they can beat us? Nothing.

Should be a good show.

Are u and some of the other REALISTS Vol fans?? Everyone knows who we played but EVERY instance where someone tries to show some positive u can predict who is going to show up and set them straight..

There will probably be several times this year where all of u REALISTS to show up and preach.. Would like to enjoy this past week's game and hopefully next week's game without all the realism..

Agree totally.

Who needs realism when you can celebrate national titles won at Alabama and FSU while dreaming about having the best staff in America as your bamboo grows?
