Next year will be a difficult year for whoever is Head Coach because of Senior losses, even CBP.

Tobias Harris and Scotty Hopson should test the NBA waters this year. If CBP is fired whoever comes in will have a hard job convincing Harris to stay.

Hiring a mid major coach will not be cheap, because Mid Major Schools are paying better. Case in point Brad Stevens makes 1 mil with a new 10 year contract and he has a 1 mil buyout.

Hamy had a meeting with Slive during the SEC tournament and Hubbs believes Slive told Hamy the hammer was falling if CBP were retained and that the penalties would be lighter is he were fired or left. Hubbs also said this was not a Hamy verses Pearl thing. He believes the 180 came with the information that Slive gave Hamy.

CBP and his lawyer/Agent have a meeting with Hamy Tuesday morning. It's been scheduled for 10 days now.

Hmm. If it's been scheduled for 10 days and is actually a "sorry buddy, your gone" what would of happend if Pearl and the boys actually won a few games in the tourney? Fire the coach in the sweet 16? Dono. Also, he's absolutely right about mid majors. People have some sort of twisted opinion on mid major coaches that they are a bunch of guys that want to go to BCS schools or something and havent been provided the oportunity. You'll make more money but I think theres more people like Mark Few than people believe. I think Brad Stevens is definantly one of them.

I disagree with Hubbs on the mid-major stuff. Stevens is probably the premier mid-major coach in the country. He makes $1 million. We could pay him 3 times that. Shaka Smart makes $325k. Not that I would want either of these guys, but it's not like the money is even close to the same.

Plus the resources and exposure.

I agree on both points.

You wouldn't want Stevens?

It probably is stupid, but I'm just not that big of a fan for some reason. I think he's reaping the benefits of Lickliter. He's obviously done great at Butler and can coach; I just question his ability to recruit at a high level.

Can't argue he is reaping the benefits of Lickliter this year. His team was questionable at the beginning of the season of even making the tourney, and they turned it up. Also, it would be one thing if he was making the NCAAs and getting beat in the first or second round, but if you are beating Izzo, Boeheim, almost Coach K, and then come out and beat Jamie Dixon with less talent then I'm guessing you are a pretty dang good coach.

i might be wrong but CAN Scotty test the waters. I thought he did that already and you only get one chance to test the waters.....

I agree UT could pay more than these guys are already making. However, Rob Lewis said this morning that he isn't convinced UT wants to spend enough for a new couch that would attract a big name. Makes me wonder what the powers that be are really thinking.

I hope this isn't true. I'd rather ride out a 2-year suspension of Bruce Pearl than essentially stop trying to compete.

Well, yeah. LOL.
I am just saying I am ok with moving on, so long as the commitment to win is still there. Our desire/commitment/ability to win shouldn't leave with Bruce Pearl.

If UT's desire/commitment/ability to win is limited to Bruce Pearl, then let's keep him and ride out the sanctions.

I agree completely agree. I certainly hope our administration doesn't adopt the mindset of so many fans who think there is no basketball program without Bruce Pearl.

Two things about the bolded:

1) It's Butler. UT is much higher profile.

2) He can point to Gordan Heyward. "Hey, I helped get that kid to the NBA AT BUTLER!!! Imagine what you can do here at Tennessee."

He can also point to the fact that he had freaking Butler a 3 point basket away from a National Championship.

And he just might have them back in the Final Four this year. He's already cleared the biggest obstacle keeping him from doing so.

I don't care where he coaches, I'll take a guy who has (potentially) led his team to two straigh Final Four's.

I sincerely hope this is wrong. The quality of this hire sets the tone for the entire future of the program. Either we're a one-coach flash in the pan, or we're in basketball to stay. Now isn't the time to get cheap.
