Hubbs on Shannon

If that idiot Dooley tries to hire Spangler from La Tech he is not a dead man walking he just sealed his fate including nailing the coffin.
Finally....I thought hell would freeze over before you popped your head in this thread to give us your great words of wisdom :bow2:

NOT....now go away kid, you bother me :hi:

If Dooley were to hire Spangler and Spangler proceeded to turn our defense into a top unit in 2012, what would you say then?

Big names are not going to assure your program of anything other than having a coach with a name that a lot of people know.

You can get your nice cozy feeling from your big names. I choose to see results on the field from whomever gets the job.

While what you say may have some merit, if they hire Spangler, we can probably kiss several of our recruits goodbye. I just don't see them coming here for him. He might be a good coach, but it would be a terrible hire from a perception standpoint. Frankly, I would hate it!!

Thats just emotion talking and not your head.

The staff can sell these kids on what they are doing , not who is who and who is not there.

Alex Anderson retweeted a tweet from the AP down in Miami saying that Shannon may get an interview with the Dolphins...that was yesterday

Wouldn't read much into it. Local guy getting a local interview for PR, I would think. Also helps satisfy Rooney Rule. I think Dolphins are going all in to get a big-name hire. I still think they offer Jeff Fisher $6-$7M/year to take that job.

Good point. Also could explain any delay. No shot he gets that job.

I didn't hear it but I am told he said RS isn't a real candidate on 104.5FM this morning. We are all very excited it seems about what we are hearing but are we ignoring the one media member that is reliable? What exactly is Hubbs saying about this situation?

I heard it and he said he was a canidate, but not sure if he was as serious of one as Steele. He seemed to sound like Steele is the guy! They kept fishing to get Hubbs to go bad on CDD and he didn't,even somewhat defended the long silence. Hubbs is a realist! GO VOLS!

I noticed that too. Most of the Nashville media is riding Franklin's jock and are constantly bashing Dooley and talking about how unstable the program is.

I highly doubt this is in any way accurate. Why would CDD care who his replacement was? If he wins, he's here for awhile. If he doesn't, he's gone. He isn't concerned with who his replacement might be in a couple years, he's concerned with winning and keeping his job.

Respect your response, but disagree. You never hire a potential replacement for your own job if you have a choice when you are on the bubble. RS has more experience and success than Dooley has. Dooley has never even been a coordinator, much less a highly successful one. If they go 7-5 or less next season, yet the defense plays well, that is exactly what I would expect to happen.

One comment I want to make on the Head coach, Coordinator, Position coach thing:

They are three separate skill sets, and being good at anyone of them does not ensure success at the other. Reference the Peter Principle.

Mike Singletary was a great position coach; head coach, not so much. Same concept can be said for both Steele and Shannon as Coordinators to Head coaches. It is also my reasoning as to why Gus Malzahn may not make a great head coach, but he is a great coordinator. On a side note, him going to Arkansas St for a first HC job my have been a smart move to get his feet wet.

Head coaches tend to be strong organizational types, CEO's. Coordinators are X's and O's guys, very analytical, nerdy even. Position coaches are motivators, rah-rah guys, recruiters. IMO, the best coaches, the elite are those that have a strong combination of the three.

Listened to it...........He mentioned Steele and his history as it relates to the last search first then said that Shannon was getting lots of social media attention.

May have been said but I didn't want to read through all the other post. Don't post second hand information.

Franklin went 6-7 with 30+ seniors. Let's see what he does next year with a much younger team. If he's successful, he'll bolt from Vandy in a New York minute for a much better job.
