How's Lamaison doing?

Anyone know why Lamaison went the JUCO route? Was he just an unknown coming out of high school or did he have academic concerns? If he had academic problems thats certainly not something you want in your quarterbacks.

he finished JUCO in a year right? I don't see that as a guy who has academic concerns.

I don't think he had any offers. He would have qualified.

Read somewhere that he blamed himself for not taking football and academics seriously his senior year in hs.

I just don't see him being a starter.

2009: Probable redshirt
2010: Probable Stephens
2011: Probable '10 class quarterback who redshirts in 2010, or with the '11 class being much better for quarterbacks a true freshman might even take this job.

I just feel like Lamaison's chances to be a regular starter are very minimal.

Agree with all of this.

he actually had a couple of Div2 offers but chose to take the juco route. He had pretty good stats in high school but the team was not very good. His recievers werent very good. Greyshirted first year in juco and then had a great year last year. Not many people knew he was available.

But the fact is, his name has been tossed around since around March or April now. Tennessee may have originally found a pretty good QB prospect hidden in the rough, but then every NCAA Division I team had a chance to evaluate him after we started pursuing him. They didn't exactly jump and try to pry this kid away from us with a crowbar, especially since he didn't have to sign an LOI and could just enroll into any school he wanted.

I dont think the coaches would have wasted a scholarship to someone with no chance and to just to fill a spot. If that was the case they could have used walk ons. Coaches are smart and know what they are doing. Give Lamaison a little credit. Too early to make that kind evaluation.

He fell under the radar. He'll prove his worthy. Just give him the benefit of the doubt.

I'm just telling you that history is against him. JUCO quarterbacks with the ability to succeed in a major big-time college conference don't exactly grow on trees. They didn't "waste" a scholarship, our depth there is non-existent and a scholarship for him was not a bad idea. They *obviously* see things in him they like. I do trust our staff, but it's going to come down to Nick's ability to adapt to the SEC and a little bit of luck with the opportunity.

Next year will be his best shot. I'm not counting him out, but in the end only one quarterback can be a starter. It's pretty stacked against him.

would they give someone a scholarship IF there was a chance the only QB on roster in spring 2010 was going to be Stephens? If your answer is no and that happened, how would they have held spring practice??

that was a major concern which led to offer..

I totally agree with you. Nick's a good kid and i want him to succeed. He's been jumping over hurdle after hurdle his whole life....he a resilient kid.

I think he will suprise people next year!!!! I like what he brings to the table. Good arm, smart, and a leader....from what I have been told by friends at UT!

Given time to adjust and learn the system I think he will be a good guarterback. He would have a hard time being worse than what we had last year!

There are several threads devoted to practice updates. From these reports and radio it seems that Nick got some reps early on and it was pretty rough. I agree with those that say this should be expected. With each passing practice I think his reps will diminish as they will give most of the reps to the starter and back-up. Short of an injury(it could happen, look at the Corp kid at USC), he'll be learning the system this fall and looking to compete with Stephens next spring.
