How'd you Feel as a Parent or Family?

It’s just as likely that he already has a new spot. That there was never any renegotiation. How else can you explain the coaching staff not knowing there was an issue till Thursday night and being surprised he no showed practice Friday.
I agree. If he doesn’t already have one it makes his actions even more disturbing.
Can you imagine bluffing and then getting called with no back up plan?

I don’t think he was bluffing. There’s no evidence that he ever asked Tennessee for more money. The coaches had no idea that it was happening till they saw it on the news like everyone else.

This. Of course I’m a little biased as a Tennessee fan, but you are the starting qb at a historical program AND under a head coach who is known for developing quarterbacks. Heupel has put his last two starting qbs in the league. They may not be starting, but they are making generational wealth to play football. That’s a win for me if my kid is on Heupel’s team.
So, he’s part of M&M’s entourage.

Just saw this on vol fan Facebook group. Apparently(allegedly) Dan Lanning notified CJH that Nico’s dad was “shopping him around”

The days of developing for the next level appear to be out the window. This crowd plays checkers when they oughta be playing chess.

If your son was the starting QB at a historical top 10 football school, coming off a 10-2 season, made first ever expanded playoff, on one of the hottest programs around currently, at a school that is literally on FIRE in all sports across the board and just like that it's GONE. Just gone in the blink of an eye. Not because of injury or some other situation to no fault of his own. Just gone because of a dumbass decision. Wow.

If Dad is really the driving force, shame on him and I truly worry for his mental health if he's in that bad of a controlling situation and relationship.

Image telling your kid some day you went from being the starting QB at Tennessee to possibly the starting QB at Butthole State.....

Butthole State? I heard they have a top 10 surf team. Dunno about football, though.

That easy for you to say. My wife's dog is named Nico.

I think I would be renaming that dog to something that is a bit more........stable.

Astro has a nice ring to it and allows you to maintain a UT connection with Dobbs

I have a pooch named Georgie. He's a bit worried about this coming football season with McIntyre as a freshman ha ha.

If he could get more money elsewhere and UT wasn't willing to match it, I'd tell him to go get that extra money.

Vol fans aren't gonna pay his bills for him, nor is the university(once he leaves). Football players have an absurdly short window to make their money in, and that window can close even sooner than expected due to injury.

Next snap he takes could be his last. Secure as much money as you can as soon as you can.
So make all the money you can at the expense of your own teammates? To hell with everybody else? That’s a terrible way to operate in life.

How about we flip that question: So throw away a substantial amount of financial security for his family, future wife/kids, etc, just to stick with a university for the next year or two?

His teammates aren't going to fund his and his family's future. If Nico stayed here and had his career ended by injury today in the O&W game or in some game this coming season, his teammates aren't going to crowdfund an extra 2 million for him. If something horrible happens and Nico lost his life after this season, his teammates aren't going to make sure his family never wants/needs for anything. They've got their own families they have to do that for.

Sucks that life costs money and it has to be that way, but alas, here we are.

Athletics is like the only place where people implant this silly mindset.

If your son worked pouring concrete and got an offer to make double his money pouring concrete for a different boss, you wouldn't tell them "no, you told the first guy and his employees that you'd work for/with them, ignore that doubled up salary and get back to work".

The lesson should be that very few people in this world truly care about you. If you don't take the best care of yourself and your family, 99.9% of the time, no one else is going to do it for you.
Where’s this other team that has already offered him 4 million. Not sure there is one, and if it is more power to them. Well shall see if they get their money’s worth if he does. I don’t think there are too many that would but by all means have at it. GBO

Won't know until it's all wrapped, I imagine.

If he never had an offer for more money elsewhere and then decided to just overnight stop communicating with the staff/university and enter the transfer portal, that'd be one of the most bizarre situations I've ever seen. Possible, I guess, but seems unlikely.

Uhhhh....he signed a contract. Then he wanted to renegotiate the signed contract....when TN balked he said F.U. to the team, the coaches, the school, and the fans. I say F.U. to Nico & his fatass money-grubbing daddy. #GBO

You're free to say whatever you want to him, just as he's apparently free to leave that contract whenever he wants, given there's nothing barring it. Sports world is filled with people not being happy with a contract they signed, or breaking it because they got offered a better one. Not sure why this comes as a shock to some.

Yeah but, using your concrete scenario, what he did (or what it appears he did anyway) was not show up to work after demanding double the money. Now he’s been fired from his “job” and is hoping someone else pays him that double salary. Is that smart in the long run? If that’s what he did, there are certainly far better ways to handle the situation.

The only reason he came to Tennessee was for the money so it shouldn't be surprising he is leaving because of money. The reason Tennessee went to court to get him was because of potential championship, not because they wanted to help some kid that was in love with UT. And we all cheered. The whole system is responsible for this result.
I don't know how his contract with Spyre reads so can't say he broke his contract. May have a clause to opt out every year or something.

It's a lot of selfishness, ego, and pride on behalf of Nico's camp.

Of course, I would want the most amount of money for my child, but I also look at the bigger picture, the development, the situation. The key difference here is that Nico's camp wants what's best for them, not for Nico. Sad situation.
I don't think everyone should give the Nico camp all the bad crap and give him a pass that's what ppl have been doing for 3 years. Per coach's and big donors, he was no shows at important autograph session and got some passes on failing to live up to his NIL contracts as far as NIL appearances, seems he became the rock star in his own mind that lets everyone around him down while failing to look in the mirror. Sometimes it's just the man in the mirror and they were a lot of enablers on here giving him excuse after excuse for not living up to his $$$ asking.
