How you like THESE apples?

A few tasty stats to munch on:

  • Hendon Hooker: 15 of 19 for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns; also ran 14 times for 74 yds and a TD
  • Tiyon Evans: 15 carries for 156 yards (10.4 ypc, long of 92 yds) and 3 touchdowns
  • Velus Jones: 7 receptions for 79 yards (11.3 ypc, long of 35 yds) and a touchdown
  • Defense: 2 INTs (Banks and McCullough), only allowed 74 yards rushing
  • Tennessee: 677 yards, 34 first downs, +2 turnovers (0 lost, 2 gained), 31:10 time of possession
  • Largest margin of victory (38 pts) over Power 5 competition since beating Northwestern 45-6 in the 2015 season Outback Bowl
  • Largest margin of victory over SEC competition since beating Ole Miss 52-14 in 2010

Go Vols!

p.s. All you fellas who thought we'd go 4-8 this season, what you thinking now?
They will just say 5-7. I really hope we can do 7-5 or better.

What was red zone effiency?
11 offensive possessions for the Vols:
  • 8 touchdowns
  • 2 field goals
  • 1 turnover on downs at Mizzou 1 yard line (was really a TD, refs blew the call)

So 10 scores on 11 possessions, 91% efficiency

(technically speaking, 4 of the TDs were scored from outside the red zone, so if you wanted you could say we were "only" 6 of 7 on red zone scoring)

My thought before the season was 4-8 was possible, 5-7 probable, 6-6 would be great, 7-5 absolute ceiling.

What can I say, I'm thrilled. I liked (and obviously still like) the staff, but all those transfers off a not so good team last year was hard to ignore.

Now, I never imagined Mizzou would field such a horrible defense. But looking at our schedule we're staring at 6-6 or 7-5 (Kentucky seems like a toss up). Maybe upset Ole Miss and go 8-4.

So, yeah, I'm thrilled. I don't care about being right when it means more success for the Vols. I'll be wrong all day and twice on Sunday if it means more Ws for UT.

The stats and game were awesome. Best Tennessee football I’ve seen in a long time and I’m starting to buy into Heupel. That being said, you can’t really fault people for thinking we might go 4-8 a few weeks ago. We had no business losing to Pitt.

But, no dwelling on the past. Great win and Go Vols
I agree, no business losing to Pitt; but if we played them next week, we'd be much more tough to deal with. I love the progress and hope to see it continue. We're short a few scholarship athletes; but I think CJH can argue with any criticism offered by opposing coaches. "we're going to compete for 60 minutes". The stage is set for development and improvement!

With hooker running show we would have won that game.

Apples make me hungry. (I realize this is off topic.) But seriously, eating an apple makes me feel like I am STARVING! I know a few people who react the same, but I just don't get the peeps who eat an apple for a snack.
They don't make me hungry like in your case, but I do like 'em with peanut butter for a snack.

Mentioned it in another thread, but it bears repeating:

Short of Bama and UGa, there is no team on our remaining schedule that we should consider ourselves underdogs to. If we continue to play at or close to the intensity and discipline we showed today, there's no doubt we can beat USCe, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Vandy, and the South Alabama Jaguars.

Will we beat them all and get to 8 wins? Time will tell. But we can beat any one of them, that's for sure.

Does the 92 yd td run from mizzou's red zone count?

Have you ever tried putting peanut butter on the apples slices? That would take care of the hunger issues.

Our Team has a long way to go, but today was encouraging. Missouri isn’t very good, so we gotta be careful about getting too euphoric over the win.

Now, let’s do the same to South Carolina.

I think the outlook for this season is a lot better. I see an improving offense with a solid QB gaining confidence. Our defense is better than expected but depth is an issue and we allow the other team to have a several long drives each game.

I see at least 3 more SEC wins. I think we beat South Carolina, Kentucky and Vanderbilt.
Have to watch Kentucky they are pretty good but USC, Vanderbilt and the cupcake make 6 wins. That is a successful year in my opinion

IF UT plays like this, 7-5 is definitely attainable. Vandy, SC, UK, and South Alabama....Even Ole Miss is winnable if they play like they have today, but less likely than the others, IMO....if Lane comes out aggressive and UT stops them, that game can be really interesting

I agree. Would love to have gotten that win over Pitt. 7 wins would really open some eyes in recruiting.
