So it's the offseason and I'm bored waiting for camp to get here. As I was looking through our last few recruiting classes, a few things came to mind:

1) 20 players are currently no longer on the roster for various reasons. 14 of them would be upper classman.

2) Out of everyone on the list, who do you think would help this team most during the upcoming season?

I wish we still had Darren Myles, Cameron Clear, and Montori Hughes. Hughes could be rotating with McCullers and Myles just looked like a baller in the backfield. Obviously Jackson would be great but I think he would've bolted for the NFL by now anyway. Same with Brown.

So. Ted Meline (WR/4*)--?
Jr. Matt Milton (WR/4*)--Louisville
Sr. David Oku (RB/4*)--Arkansas State
Sr. Montori Hughes (DT/2*)--Academic Casualty
Jr. Toney Williams (RB/3*)--?
Sr. Bryce Brown (RB/5*)--KSU/Philadelphia Eagles
Sr. Janzen Jackson (S/5*)--(DB/5*)--Dismissed/New York Giants
Jr. Jerrod Askew (LB/4*)--Dismissed
Sr. Darren Myles Jr. (S/4*)--Dismissed
Sr. Mike Edwards (DB/3*)--Dismissed/Hawaii
So. Nash Nance (QB/2*)--?
Jr. Kevin Revis (OL/3*)--UT Chat.
Jr. Jerquari Schofield (OL/4*)--Academic Casualty
Sr. Nu'Keese Richardson (WR/4*)--Dismissed
Jr. Arthur Jeffrey (DT/3*)--?
So. Martaze Jackson (DE/3*)--?
So. Pat Martin (S/4*)--?
So. Cameron Clear (TE/4*)--Dismissed
Jr. Izauea Lanier (DB/4*)--Academic Probation

Just remember they were dismissed or left for a reason. Usually its a good thing the player is no longer on the team.

A better question should be, how much better our team would have been if we would have gotten rid of them before? These players can be a like a virus.

Pat Martin quit because he thought he should be given a starting job from day 1- didn't want to compete, "didn't come here to sit on the bench"

From a talent standpoint no one on that list outside the 3 you mention are big difference makers in 2012 imo (Janzen to NFL)

Based on why they left I would not want Clear or Myles anywhere near the team.

I seem to remember Hughes did not impress coaches with work ethic and practice, so maybe he gets passed on depth chart - regardless, inability to make grades is an issue you cannot ignore.

Honestly we cant say if any would be difference makers or not. With the right coaching who knows who emerges. Could be nobody could be some elite guys emerge. I hate they didnt get a chance to ssee.

Wish things could've worked out with Oku...not so much for this year but we sure could've used em last year.

I would take Cam Clear, Myles, Janzen, and Nuke in the condition that they were perfect little angels. Since they aren't, it doesn't really matter, and I wouldn't really want anyone else on that list anyways.

Hughes. Schofield, Jackson, Clear, and Lanier.... I'll take our current roster over any of the other guys, even for depth purposes

Would have love to see what Bryce Brown would have done had he found the motivation to succeed at this level.

Anyone who passes on Hughes is crazy. Kid had no work ethic, but on talent alone would have been nice to have in there 10-15 snaps a game. Miles would be huge as well.

I don't know how he's done since leaving, but I thought Mike Edwards had some good potential at corner. We definitely could have used some help there last year. There's some young talent there now, but it would be good to have another veteran corner.

So. Ted Meline (WR/4*)-- Didn't like competition or being moved to defense.
Jr. Matt Milton (WR/4*)--Louisville - Had his shot but would never contribute here.
Sr. David Oku (RB/4*)--Arkansas State - Head case
Sr. Montori Hughes (DT/2*)--Academic Casualty - Couldn't stay out of trouble.
Jr. Toney Williams (RB/3*)--Never the same after tearing his knee.
Sr. Bryce Brown (RB/5*)--KSU/Philadelphia Eagles - Head case.
Sr. Janzen Jackson (S/5*)--(DB/5*)--Dismissed/New York Giants - Couldn't stay out of trouble.
Jr. Jerrod Askew (LB/4*)--Dismissed - Lazy waste of talent.
Sr. Darren Myles Jr. (S/4*)--Dismissed - Couldn't stay out of trouble.
Sr. Mike Edwards (DB/3*)--Dismissed/Hawaii - Trouble caught up with him.
So. Nash Nance (QB/2*)-- Not talented enough to break the 2 deep.
Jr. Kevin Revis (OL/3*)--UT Chat. - Not talented enough to contribute
Jr. Jerquari Schofield (OL/4*)--Academic Casualty - No focus in the classroom.
Sr. Nu'Keese Richardson (WR/4*)--Dismissed - Troubled.
Jr. Arthur Jeffrey (DT/3*)-- Not focused enough.
So. Martaze Jackson (DE/3*)-- Not talented enough to contribute
So. Pat Martin (S/4*)-- Scared of competition.
So. Cameron Clear (TE/4*)--Dismissed - Troubled.
Jr. Izauea Lanier (DB/4*)--Academic Probation - Not focused enough in the classroom

Honestly, I think we're way better off without them except a couple of obvious exceptions. We needed the scholarships to offer to new recruits.

exactly. what if having some of those guys kept us from getting some of our recent recruits?

maybe having nukese would have kept cpatt away, maybe having hughes would have kept mccullers away, maybe having oku would have caused bourque to go to lsu or the canes. peterman for nance etc.... i like who we have, i want guys who care enough about the team to keep themselves out of trouble and focus on both football and SCHOOL. ive worked with some people in my life that i really liked that made bad decisions that got them fired or forced them to quit. i might miss them but if my job and success and the welfare of my family depends on someone i dont want just a friend i want somebody who can help me make money. you gotta think about it like that guys.

Wow that is really profound.

I would've loved it if L Creer and D Morley would've stuck around and kept their noses clean.. Morley was one of my favorite recruits ever..

What was the name of the QB that committed to use a couple of years ago but decided to play baseball?
Wonder how he is doing

Casey Kelly? Was traded to San Diego as a part of the Adrian Gonzalez deal. I would think he's going to make his debut at some point this fall in their rotation.

Based on playing ability ALONE, we would be much better if these were still around IMO.

Oku
Hughes
Brown
Jackson
Myles
Nuke
Cam
Izzy

I'm gonna say Bryce Brown. Not only did we not show up last year in the RB position, but the boy could play. I know he had lots of issues, but does anyone remember his first TD run? YouTube it sometime. Even though we were playing a subpar team, be straight up embarrassed a brother. He played hard.

There are three on that list that I would want back. Janzen, Darren Myles Jr.(stud at safety), and Bryce Brown. All of the others(including Izzy) can kick rocks we're better without them.
