How do you, other VN'ers, think our former head coaches, dating back to Fulmer, would do with this exact same team this upcoming season?

Fulmer- Six wins
Kiffin- Seven wins
Dooley- Four, maybe five wins

Fulmer would depend on who the OC was.

Kiffin wouldn't finish the season. Probably get beat up for hitting on Smith's girlfriend.

Dooley. Well Dooley.

I think there are a bunch of coaches and a bunch of teams where the win-loss record can swing as much as 4 games on one dude.

If Florida, Georgia, or Tennessee get "good" QB play, they can win more than most think.

If people take the time to look at LSU's season last year, they are playing for a national title (and probably winning) if they had Clemson's QB. I think every game they lost last season, they gave up less than 20 points.

I think all of those coaches (with the exception of maybe Dooley) would do pretty damn well with this roster and schedule.....IF......BIG IF......they get good QB and also assuming that those squads on the schedule don't fix their QB issues.

You think present day kiffin is better than Fulmer at his best?? You must be about 23 years old, because that is laughable. Please, take time to compare resumes. One of Fulmer's last year, he took 2 freshman quarterbacks to an SEC championship. Kiffin had a cupboard of talent at USC and bombed out miserably.

Kiffen 6 wins, 5 recruiting violations
Dooley 5 wins...barely including a 3 OT win over Indiana State
CBJ 8-9 wins
Early Fulmer 10-11 wins, 1 loss to FL but would find a way to beat Bama
Later bad recruiting Fulmer: 7-8 wins

Dooley got better records with far worse rosters

I'm trying to interpret what this means in any sort of factual sense... The best I can come up with is that you mean not as many players recruited by Dooley left school with criminal records?

Nah, I didn't say that. I think that Kiffen did better in his one year here than Fulmer did in his last. I also think he had less to work with than Fulmer did as well.

I give CLK the w/l edge with this roster over Fulmer.

We don't have the QB and WR's this up coming season that CDD had his last two and that's why I don't think he would have more than 4/5 wins.

Fulmer was a better HC than any listed including the current one.

Get back to me when the current one takes a loaded roster and gets 5 wins out of it. What glue do you sniff to beat up a guy for taking a talented team and winning 9 but wax the carrot of a guy who wins 5?

On topic:
Fulmer probably 6 wins.
Kiffin maybe 7.
Dooley 5 wins.

Butch 8 wins.

Are your basing your prediction on Fulmer's 2 worst years? You know he coached for 15 years and averaged almost 9 wins a season. Fulmer only had 2 years with less than 8 wins. All you young guys who think Fulmer was terrible are killing me :pilot:

I'm not a Fulmer apologist but I find it asinine that a Hall of Fame Coach such as Fulmer would have fewer wins than Kiffin. Kiffin is a loser who has flamed out everywhere. He was fired by the Raiders, he was fired by USC, Bama didn't want him back and he's now at FAU.

The only thing he's ever won is having the #1 public access show in the State of Alabama.

All other things being remotely stable and units performing to "top 30ish" range, QB is definitely differentiating factor for SEC E champion this year. Dawgs scare me if they ever get their act together. UF has proven they can do "more with less", but for how long, w/ all the losses on D? Think we've got two potential difference makers at QB, but need one of them to be a rain-maker. Come to think of it...crazy how few top level QB's are coming out of SEC.

As evidenced by all the big time coaching offers he received after being unfairly fired

The evidence is their records as a HC.

CBJ may have something to say about it all, the rest have had their say, and it was pitiful.

Figure it out Butch.

Edit: I was running Kiffen and Dooley down. I've got no beef with Fulmer, I liked him as our coach.

Get back to me when the guy 5 years in is expected to win more than 8 (your number)

One of those coaches has actually won something.

The other is still trying to find Atl without Spurrier, Meyer, or Richt in the way.
