How would CBJ change staff if needed?

I don't know his connections. It seems like his circle is small and I'm worried about that.

I honestly think if he doesn't make some sort of change at the end of the season, he's taking the Michigan job if offered.

This makes no sense for so many reasons it makes my head spin. Lets start with there is no way in hell Michigan or any other top tier program is offering Butch Jones the head coaching job until he proves he can get the job done at this level. I'm sure most people do believe he can coach at this level but now that he's here he will have to prove it.

BJ isn't going to be offered the Michigan job.

Michigan would probably offer Muffin the job before Butch.

Only Hamilton offers a guy with an active losing record.

That said, I don't think its the scheme. I think it starts with the OL coach and works up to Bajakians stubborn playcalling and ends with Worley missing every deep throw he's had all year (pressure or not) and making horrible RZ reads.

Dude, how do you figure a coach with a worse record than the one Mich would be firing, would be hired by them?

Please 'splain yo'self.

No one takes the job and Butch takes the call. If he really wants to keep his job, he has to shift his staff...and if you can't you bring your staff to another team.

Exactly l was sitting with a buddy at the 50 yd line on the Ole Miss side around all these boosters, bunch of the biggest douches I ever been around at a football game by the way, the ladie next to me was nice but the rest were Something else, anyways I'm rambling.. Before the game was over they said something bout Butch is packing his bags to Michigan I was like ok..

He can't win in the SEC that makes sense for them to hire him.. Wins and losses count not moral victories. By the way I think Butch is doing things right. Just got to let him finish his contract then reevaluate when it ends...

Duke's record since Cutcliffe has been head coach...

2008: 4-8
2009: 5-7
2010: 3-9
2011: 3-9
2012: 6-7
2013: 10-4
2014: 6-1

5 straight losing seasons before the record finally started showing the evidence of his hard work. I wonder if Duke fans were questioning his offensive scheme after a year and a half, let alone after 5 years.
check out his record at Ole Miss before you look to him as a program saver.

I meant having Cutcliffe as the OC again. Bajakian can't get not done. Now oh look at CDC's offenses at Ole Miss and at Duke (consider that Duke isn't a major football recruiting program).

Butch won't make staff changes. The coaches are tight. Their wives are friends, their kids are friends, they are a package deal. They came together and they will leave together. He thinks they are the best coaches available, and if he's wrong, it will speed all of their departure.

Yep. For all those folks screaming for Butch to make staff changes, you're wasting oxygen.

Go tell that Cuonzo Martin.

Besides, you're missing my point anyway. My point is that IF Duke decided to run Cutcliffe off after 5 straight losing seasons and back to back 3-9 records, they'd be running off what we all can see now is a pretty damn good football coach. My whole point all of this is it's been a year and half. People need to put their damn torches and pitchforks away and look to 2016. THAT will be the year where it all comes together. Just wait and see.
Good luck convincing Count or any of these other irrational goober heads of that. In their heads a coach only has one year to prove his worth. It's pitiful.

I've been following Cut's tenure at Duke. That 4-8 season was a stunning improvement (Duke was 1-10, 0-12, and 1-11 in the three years before Cut's arrival). In each of the 3-9 seasons, the team got better as the season went along, and was generally competitive in losses.

There were some grumblings from the fan base, but for the most part, there was always a feeling that Duke was getting better, even when they were losing.

Geez, he wasn't THAT bad.

1999 8-4
2000 7-5
2001 7-4
2002 7-6
2003 10-3
2004 4-7

2004 was a rebuilding year after Eli Manning graduated, though they did have inexcusable losses to Memphis and Wyoming.

If Jones does decide to change anything it will be the end of the year and after evaluation of the season as a whole. You can't simply change position coaches or coordinators in the middle of a season. Throwing those coaches under the bus does nothing for you either but make you look like an ass that no one will want to work for. I trust that Jones will make the changes if they're needed but a ton of freshmen starting really muddies the waters on evaluation.

I get some of the absolute idiots on this site think they can just fire this coach or that coach in the middle of a season then find someone else that is better. I'm sorry but that's just as moronic and nonsensical as the original post in this thread.

Duke was happy with 4 wins

That was 4 more than normal

And until we give our coaches four years before we call for heads I think a few of you should pump the brakes as far as changing coaches.

As far as changing schemes mid-season, give me a break!

He will not be back for a fourth season if this year and next are losing seasons. I don't think Hart survives if we have three straight losing seasons and he advocates retaining Butch. If you love Butch start praying that he can somehow flip Richardson from Ole Miss, flip Blake Barnett from Bama, and somehow sign Martez Ivey. I think that if Butch could land those three prospects he might have a shot at winning 6 or 7 games next year.

Wait, you're telling me Wyoming losses led to the firing of Fulmer and Cutcliffe? Now that is a weird stat.
Butch needs to pay attention to the major coaching changes this December. UF and UM are likely to change staffs which probably means 2 top current coaches are going to be brought in. That's a lot of coordinators that will be looking for a job or an upgrade. We need to take a good look at them. IMO Fulmer's biggest mistake was not poaching the LSU coaching staff after Saban left.

I completely disagree. There is no way in hell they get rid of Butch before giving him four years of recruiting and letting it play out 2016 season.

One step farther, he will be here for the Battle at Bristol. Book it!
