I'm assuming Fulmer will be gone at end of season. I'm also assuming that a deal will be brokered and he will walk away quietly(Big Assumption).

So my question is, if during a game next year or in the future UT decides to honor Phil at halftime or something. How will you react? Will you applaud because of the great job he's done (overall) or will you applauad because he's finally gone?

Just want to get everyone's take.

1. That's not a big assumption.
2. I hope they announce which game he'll be honored at. That way, I can plan to be out in the concourse during the ceremony. It will save me bursting into a hearty course of booing.

Your applauding either way and Fulmer wont know the difference so why does it matter

It all really depends on how everything turns out. If he walks away (dismissed quietly) at the end of this year, then I believe that most fans will applaud him for what he has done (maybe not next year, but in two years). If this mess continues, then it will be many years before he can come back and not be booed out of the place.

The moment Fulmer steps down as coach, I think a majority of Tennessee fans will be able to celebrate what he did during the 90's. I'm ready for him to go, but I'm still a Fulmer fan and wish him nothing but the best.

It'll be a torn emotion...happy, sad, excited, etc.

I think ill be excited about the future up until they probably hire a coach out of nowhere I disapprove of. With all of our hope for a "big name" to come in, I can only think about how else the admins can pull us down even farther.

About the only way I see it working out is if he goes quietly, and then returns in 2018 for the 20 year anniversary of our undefeated team.

I know the program has gone way down, and the last 5 or 6 years have been no fun, but why all the hatred for CPF? I'm as ready as anyone for a change, but I just don't understand the hatred and dislike of him.

The hatred and dislike will only occur if he drags this out, and runs the program through the mud for money. If he bows out gracefully, people will appreciate him much more than if he goes out kicking and screaming. I don't hate him, but I certainly don't love him at this point. His behavior will dictate whether or not people will be behind him sooner than later. You have to remember the only thing he has to hang his hat on happened 10 years ago, so it makes sense to me that the anniversary of the national title would be the most appropriate time to bring him back.

I think this has already gone on too long for some people's liking. I would be included in that group. I feel in some ways he has put his own needs and ego ahead of what is best for the program.

I haven't been following UT very long. I got a job in TN in 1999, went to one game, and I was hooked. I no longer work in TN, but have continued to follow the Vols. I get so loud during games, my wife acutally leaves the house.

I came in on the latter years of UT domination of the SEC. I respect what Fulmer has accomplished. I know the last few years haven't lived up to expectations, but I would be satisfied if our next coach went 150-50.

I understand it's time for a change, and I agree with it. I also believe Fulmer deserves respect no matter how he goes out. As fans we only see what's on the field, but he has dedicated most of his life to this program. I hope our next coach loves UT that much.

totally agree. CPF loves ut with all his heart. (prolly more than vicky) does any1 think at this point he is recruiting for the next head coach?

This is a great question. It will truly be bittersweet to me. On one hand, we will be saying goodbye to a true Volunteer. No one bleeds orange like this man did for our university. A man that gave us many years of competitive ball, many victories over hated rivals and delivered us a MNC, regardless of how he did it. On the other, it represents a new beginning for UT football. One with infinite possibilities and possibility of return to greatness. I will shed a tear for Fulmer, I won't be able to help it. But I recognize that it is time for a change.
