How/why did you become a Vols fan?

Both parents graduated from UTK in '61. They've had season tix ever since. I was born into it. When it was time to go to college, I applied to one school (UTK), was accepted, went there and graduated. My wife is a UT grad as well.

GBO.

I grew up in Athen, GA, hated Georgia, but loved Tech (Dad's school). When it was time for college, Tech didn't really have what I wanted and since Georgia was not a real option, Tennessee was the only other logical choice. I went to my first Neyland Stadium football game in '95, was in love from the first moment, and have never looked back. My fiancee is a grad, we both bleed Orange.

All of my family are Vol fans, but I remember listening to John Ward on the radio before all the games were on tv and internet and that sealed the deal right there! You felt like you were there listening to Ward!

Yeah, I just comment on the game conversations. Their forums suck now. Robust, baha.

You gonna be able to watch the game tomorrow? I didn't know if Ohio carried the SEC Network or not.

Yeah I will. For some reason Fox always picks up the 12:21 kickoff game. I always like to watch those. However, Ohio State and Michigan are playing at noon today and considering all my family are huge osu fans, I probably won't be able to watch the game. But oh well...there's always highlights. If they lose to Kentucky, I'm gonna lose it...ha.

My grandfather was an alumnus, both parents are alumni, my siblings and I are alumni and we've been season ticket holders for more than 50 years. My baby blanket was orange, and I've been going to UT home games since I could walk. It's great... to be... a Tennessee Volunteer! (I'm also a UCLA alumnus, so go Bruins-- big game today!)

Moved to Nashville when I was 6 and started playing for the Vols...Flatrock Vols. Been a Vols fan ever since.

My dad still has a picture of me that first year that is pretty amusing. When he bought my pants he had gotten them to big. The thigh pads ended up being my knee pads and the knee pads were shin guards.

I'm not really sure how exactly it happened. I was born and raised in Knoxville, about 2-3 miles away from Neyland, so it only seemed natural that I was going to be a Vol fan.

Pop took me to the 1967 UT vs. GA Tech game and have been orange since. Parked in the old Miller's parking garage and walked over, got a TENNESSEE T-Shirt and wore it all the time...was nicknamed Tennessee playing flag football that year.

Several years later, spent many a great day at the ole Alma Mater, met my wife there (a Kentuckian who HATES UK and bleeds orange), had my daughter at UT Medical Center before moving along with graduation and a job. Got to watch the up and down Majors years while a student, got to see Bear Bryant leave Neyland a loser his last game there (stormed the field), got to see us dismantle a 2nd ranked (I think) Notre Dame team (stormed the field) and both times see the goal posts going up and down the Strip all night long.

Several years of season ticket holding later, still feel my heart swell and that lump in my throat when I go to The Hill and get to see my "home". And, have to admit, with the first playing of the National Anthem each year...and the Alma Mater being played...a tear comes to my eye.

I was born and raised in Tennessee...what more can you say?

Go VOLS!!!

Well like about 95% of y'all, it's the home team. Born and raised, i have a huge family and every single one is a Vols. Not one troll in the bunch!!!

Having grown up in Nashville, our coaches in high school scheduled a football game every year in the Knoxville area. Our bus always stopped by Neyland on the way. The first time we rolled through campus I knew I was going to school there. That is the only place I applied. Best 4.5 years of my life. VFL

Both my parents graduated from UT (76 and 78). I grew up with it in the house. Because I grew up NC, my first love was basketball and I didn't watch much football in my tender years. By the time I started liking football (11 or 12), I was pretty well indoctrinated by my family since they were always screaming at the TV during the UT games. I started watching UT football during a very successful time and it was easy to like the product on the field. When it came time to go to school, UT was a short hour and a half away and they had just won the national championship in a miracle season, so I became a legacy.

Now I couldn't imagine another scenario. I tried to imagine what it would be like to be a Bama fan the other day and I got a little ill at the thought.

Dad was/is a fan and I dont ever remember 'becoming' one. But I do know that I like to be different from people, and living in Alabama and Georgia... well you get it. Might not consider me a true fan... just kidding... but if I wasn't a Vol fan I'd likely be an Auburn or *gasp* Florida fan.

I lived in Knoxville for a few years in the late 90's. I was there for Florida and Arkansas during the championship run. I paid $100.00 each for those tickets and would do it again. Got to see some lesser opponents with free tickets from the company I worked for. As long as I live I will never forget the fall of the gators and the come from behind against the Hogs. Damn it was cold and wet that night. On the way back to the car we were waking by the river and someone from the Vol Navy invited us on board to get warm and have a drink. Little did we know we were walking into all nighter. Even though we just stayed until the traffic thinned out it was a blast. Made us feel like he had known us forever. Funny thing, we introduced ourselves and he said names don't matter you are wearing orange. Sorry for being so long winded but ever since the FL game it is like I have been possessed.

I got the Orange Blood Living in East TN before I went USAF my family would take me to games, loved listening to the legend John Ward too

Born , raised, live in Knoxville. Whole family Vol fans. My sister , parents , alot of family and friends and I went to UT. Remember going to games as a little boy with my dad while he was getting his Masters from UT. He was friends with several UT athletes and they would come over to the house . So I guess I couldn't be anything but.
