When I played basketball. and started screwing up, my coaches would pull me out of the game, sit me down, and do 1 of 2 things:

1) Tell me to clam down, you're a good player, you can do this...calm down

2) Chew my butt out and tell me to wake up

It depended on what I needed to hear. The important thing is that after that, they would quickly put me back in the game after giving me a few minutes to think.

Why oh why did the coaches not pull Crompton out even for a series? Stephens could have handled 1 series.

Crompton's confidence would not have been shattered. If being pulled for a series kills his confidence, he doesn't need to be our QB.

I think Crompton can be good, but the coaches must, Must, MUST help him stay focused--whatever it takes.

If Crompton doesn't get it, we need to move on.

I think in the past we have done all we can for that boy. He just isn't a good player and that is just obvious. We simply cannot win with crompton period.

I remember one game last year where Peyton was at the game trying to give Crompton some advise, and Crompton more or less blew Peyton off. That was when I lost any respect that I had for Crompton. :nono:

I just dont think he is very football smart. He actually has all the tools but he doesn't have everything upstairs clicking when it comes to football.

Sportscasters are saying that Crompton is, what is called in the Pro ranks, as a "half fielder". He see's only one half of the field, and maybe only a third of the field. It was suggested that the coaches run more "flood routes" so he doesn't have to look off his receivers. Only problem with that is the DB's can concentrate in one area as well. You gotta be accurate in those cases. I agree with the poster above that maybe they should have pulled him for one series and showed him what his mistakes were.

Crompton is good unless he feels pressure, and I don't mean from the opposing defense. He just can't handle the stress of a big game situation.

I 100% agree with you. Crompton may be the better practice QB but sure as hell isn't the better game day QB.

I agree that we cant win with crompton. But I dont think we can win with stephens or the o-line playing so inconsistent or with receivers running the wrong routes. The bottom line is we werent going to win anyways REBUILDING YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we should just expect cromp to be cromp and wait till bray can play to have real expectations. Until then lets just compete.

Honestly, what good would sitting him for a series do, he had nine months to review tape of last year and it didn't sort out the problems. He isn't doing anything different from last year and is having exactly the same result.

I understand that LK is trying to deflect criticism away from Crompton but let’s look at one play in particular. The overthrow to Jones in the first half. If that ball is anywhere near the target, it is a 25 yard gain deep into UCLA territory. But Crompton overthrows him but 15 yards and there was not pressure at all on him in the pocket. Look at the possession that ended in a field goal to make it 19-13. On third down, as he scrambles out to the right, there was a receiver streaking across the back of the end zone wide open. That is a pass that you have to make in the SEC if you want to win. A fumbled snap to set up their first and only TD. I am just saying that Crompton is a practice player. As long as he is wearing a yellow practice jersey, the kid is an all star. Put Stephens in and give him a shot. I think you either do that or keep Crompton’s passes to less than 5 a game. I was proud of our defense and I was proud of our running game. Late in the game, UCLA knew we had to run to move the ball and they still ran it down there throat. Just give Stephens a chance, he can’t be worse than Crompton.

I couldn't agree more. God I hope Stephens plays this Saturday.

I'd pay cash to watch a select volnation member have 5 minutes with JC on a locked room telling him what he's lookin like on the field.
