think about it, 2 years in a row Tebow has run at will on us and we lost. Next year maybe Chris Donald will be ready to track him all over the field. I think drilling the qb is the spread offense kryptonite.

I think drilling the Qb is the kryptonite to every offense, but I see what you mean.

Actually, I made the point on this board a few days ago. If you watch what USF did to WVa and what Auburn did to Florida, stopping these spread type offenses is predicated on not allowing the QB's to beat you with their legs.

Tebow is great, and it is hard to critique his perfomances, but when he absolutely has to throw the ball (when playing from behind) he doesn't always look comfortable in the pocket. A team must have a great pair of D ends or a "shadow" to keep him there.

I will say the kid is good but if you stop him from running out of the pocket, you can stop the scoring.

Yeah its true. If teabow isn't getting that four of five yards per carry then you can stop florida. But knowing how and doing is two different things.

it was said before and I'll say it again. Good tackling wins ballgames no matter what offense you're up against. That's essentially what this comes down to.

I am pretty sure he won't beat Meyer this year. Is there a point to this thread?

I am sorry but seeing as how freshmen tailbacks run over donald, I wouldn't pick him to go up against someone like tebow. donald would get trucked worse then he did by vareen!

I dont think Fulmer beats Meyer with Tebow as a Junior and Senior. His best chance to beat Tebow as a starter was this year. My guess he will be 0-5 vs Meyer if he's here that long.

i dont think tebow stays all 4 years...and florida is going to have to get a handle on their thugs or there will be a lot of scholarship athletes on the sidelines...

Auburn beat the Florida offense, IMO, by starting with great corner play. Their corners played man and did a great job. That freed up the safety and even LBs to focus more on the run.
If you go back to the Tennessee game - we did a good job real early on Tebow - it was after he completed some deep balls that he, and others, found room to run.

Can Phil beat Meyer...yes.
Will Phil beat Meyer...unless some changes are made and the old dog learns some new tricks...no.

I do not disagree that right now the first key to beating Florida's offense is to stop the Tebow run. Its not that he can't throw the ball -- he can -- its just that the offense in its entirety is much more difficult to stop if your secondary has to cheat the run too much.

But there will be at least two problems with that next season. First, the Gators will finally have a legitimate RB threat in Emmanuel Moody. He was USC's leading running back a year ago, but left because they had too many of them for this year. He'll be eligibile to play for us in 2008.

Second, with another year under his belt and with guys like Harvin and James back in the receiving corps, the passing game should be all that much more potent from experience. We know Tebow has plenty of arm strength and when he's comfortable, he's a very good passing QB.

So, while I agree with the advice you are citing, I'm thinking that it isn't going to do UT that much good next year.
