How times have changed

I'm just grateful we don't have to listen to Butch Jones anymore. God, he was so embarrassing
You know it's really weird about Butch Jones. I remember watching him closely during the Cincinnati game at Neyland stadium before he became our coach. I've never seen the guy in my life, but as I watched him and watched his actions pregame and during the game, I thought this guy is a pretender if I've ever seen one. 😳 I should have went and played the lottery that day. I never forgot that weird feeling even when he was hired here. He landed some pretty sick recruiting classes that quelled suspicion. But, eventually the pretender was exposed.

What about 7 of his other 8 years here when his corners played just like this?
Last year our corners were much better than I expected - so I attribute it to talent level. Martinez has never really recruited Elite level skill players. They have been good/ serviceable but never Elite. Jerod McMoy is the best Corner we have had in my memory. Since Eric Berry was a safety I don’t count him.

I remember that game. I also remember Dooley after the game, saying "well Im never not going to celebrate a win, because they're so hard to come by." 🙄
I'll never forgive Dooley for that first Mizzou lost when we let them score 21 points in the last 7 min including a 4th and 17 TD with no time left to tie it up

I don’t know fellas, I feel like Saban would giving up 17 points to a team like UAB even though we’re putting up fitty.
AL won't play any of the in-state teams in FB. I rubbed this weeks game at my Bama buds all week that TN as not afraid to play UAB like Bama is.

They will give $1M to W. Carolina for a beat down but not an instate FCS school. Very strange to me. And playing UAB would be house money as they are a part of the University, paying themselves.

I was at that game. I'll never forget, Mizzou ran a play where they threw a long pass to Odell Beckham Jr in the corner of the endzone and he almost caught it. I turned around to a couple of Mizzou fans (super nice guys btw), and said "If I was Mizzou's coach I would go right back to that same play again", and I'll be damned if they didnt do that very thing and Beckham caught it for a TD!

What's even weirder is that Bama and Auburn both used politicians to attempt to kill UAB's program all together. and succeeded for a few years.

Tennessee would never do that to an in-state school

Coma or missionary trip to Antarctica?

Either way, I don’t recommend catching up on the 2000’s or 2010’s.. Just know Heupel has turned it around!
lol. I was here for all of it. Rough times. And you’re right that he has. However, I am one of the few that will say I don’t believe he’s a coach that will get us to the next level. I think he could have a lot of successful 8-10 win seasons here, which admittedly is hard to complain about given the past. I just personally don’t see the championship caliber there.

The horrid management of last weeks game solidified that thought for me.

Martinez is not the problem, Tim Banks is the problem
Its not Banks. Its our personnel right now. I have heard that Banks isnt much of a recruiter, so if I was to knock him on anything, its that. But I really haven't had any issues with him in terms of scheme.

Not a great recruiter or coach. Thrives on sending undrafted and lowly drafted guys to the league who were burnt toast their whole careers here, then he has guys like Brent Hubbs say he’s doing a great job. Some fans defend him because they’d defend Hitler for slapping their own mothers if he wore PMS 151.

He has been here 9 years now, and only one of those years had good CB play. And even that year they got exposed when championships were on the line.

What specific first hand experience do you have that allows you to make such an evaluation? Who specifically would you hire that will bring us a national championship? Have you been a part of of a championship team as a player or coach at this level of sports? Your thought processes seem to reveal somewhat of a lofty perch. I figure you must have some sort of pedigree that would allow you to make such comments

We are at the next level from where Butch and Fulmer had us. We are two levels beyond where Kiffin, Dooley, and Pruitt had us. Another level beyond that is asking for a lot.

No coach has accomplished the top tier without out spending everyone else on recruiting. For another 50% more spending on NIL, we could afford a top 5 roster.

Uhhh, I'm not so sure this is true. The fan base was in a whirlwind after the lane train rolled out of town. But, there was a lot of questions about the LA Tech coach coming with his losing record.
I assure you this statement is true. I can share messages with you if you don't want to take my word for it.

I expected something like this from you Bernard. Thanks. Others opinions generally hurt your feelings. There’s no guarantee with any coach. We both know that. GA once dumped a coach with a good record with no guarantee and it worked out for them. They wanted more and were willing to risk it. Do I think we will? No. Doesn’t mean I can’t say I’d prefer it.

But I know this. My statements hold more true than yours right now. We haven’t sniffed a SEC championship, so let’s not even talk about a natty. I hope he and you prove me wrong at some point. The sooner the better buddy. Guess what? This forum is full of people sitting on their “perches” AKA opinions. I suggest you not let them ruin your day.

After his decisions last week, I’m confident in my “lofty perch”. Spin it however you’d like but that loss was 100% on him. He called a scared, 0 fortitude, 0 confidence second half that led to the loss. Who cares if I see it, but I can promise you the players do. If you’ve played athletics at any level, there’s not much worse than a coach blowing a big game for you as a player instead of turning you loose to win it. I’m no psychic but I promise you there were players grumbling over that after the loss. Heupel deserves a lot of credit and is a good coach. I just doubt his ability to be a next level coach. However, I will happily take this rubbed in my face if that day comes.

Buddy, from that comment you must not have been around long. You must’ve caught fulmer in the few years past his prime. Did he overstay his welcome? 100%. But I suggest you take a look at UT football in the 90s. There was even this one year we won a natty in that era. Dislike the guy all you want, but Heupel definitely doesn’t have us on the “next” level when compared to fulmer.

UAB is FBS, not FCS.

With Fulmer, I went into every game feeling like we had a chance to win. While I like Heupel and he has us in a position we haven’t been in a long time, I don’t feel the same way.

No one was hurt by your opinion on anything. What statement have I made that's not true?

You're deluded to believe your statements could "ruin" anyone's day. I just wondered where you gathered all this knowledge to make claims of mediocrity. I played at a high enough level to know it's better than mediocrity. So no, that statement doesn't hold true. Top ten isn't mediocrity and to think of where we are and what he came into certainly disproves that silly claim.

I highly doubt any of the players would agree with your assessment. That you think so is another deluded belief

Keep lying to yourself buddy. If you think everyone in that huddle wasn’t dumbfounded when we got a fumble and then ran 3 Fulmer- up the centers rear ends- then you’re more delusional than you think I am.

The RPO is on the QB. We very rarely huddle. So no, that's not what they were thinking.

You're the only one lying to yourself thinking we're "mediocre".

I'm not mad at you because you don't know any better. I already knew the answers to those questions I asked. You know why? Your posts stink of the uninformed, entitled fan

Guess it depends on your thoughts of “mediocre”. For a university such as ours, I think 7-10 wins is mediocre. Not a bad season, and right where I think Heupel can come in every year. With the possibility of another W here and there.

But never truly competing for the goal- a championship. You see, Bernard, the reason we don’t see eye to eye and the reason we’d never get along, is because you’re okay with being a loser. You have low standards and that’s fine.

Im not mad at you because you don’t know any better. It takes all types to make this world go round.

And we both know you’re lying to yourself. To tell yourself there weren’t some players upset that we took the foot off the gas is silly. A confident coach lets his players go win the game. Heupel did everything but that during the second half. To think all of those players are morons and don’t see it is pretty arrogant of you.
