How times have changed

I remember those days, and heaven forbid anyone speak poorly of Butch, or Jeremy. You were crucified here. Always got the... "Who we gonna get?"

We hired a lawyer, a bandy, and an assistant coach from a MTV show. If I hadn't lived through it I wouldn't believed it.
The coach worship on here was strong for those 3. I’m betting there are still some Brick-By-Brick shirts in the back of the drawers of many posters on here.

Yeah, let's blame it on Hamilton, God rest his soul. He didn't make that hire unilaterally. It had to be approved and endorsed by someone up the chain of command
Can you point to a single hire under him that was successful. Maybe Kiffin. Maybe Todd Raleigh. Maybe Cuonzo Martin. He was nothing but a bean counter.

Nothing stupid about it. He even screwed up Fulmer's firing. Fired him with no clue who to offer the job to. This was the start of 20 years in the football wilderness.

Firing Fulmer or hiring Kiff weren't the downfall.pf the program.

That came from giving Lane a $1 million out clause

Do I think Lane would have won big here had he stayed? Nope. He woulda been fired after 4-5 years and there would have been all kinds of NCAA issues. But the program would not have bottomed out completely either.

It's so nice that we're now able to handle games like this the way we should. In 2010 I sat through two overtimes praying we wouldn't lose to these UAB-Blazers. The Vols won but it was a mighty struggle. Enjoy these days, it's nice to be back.
Even more recently, 2019, we were sitting at 3-5 coming off an upset of USCe and yet to win 2 games in a row with UAB on deck.

I don't think anyone could claim they weren't a little nervous.
I remember that game. I also remember Dooley after the game, saying "well Im never not going to celebrate a win, because they're so hard to come by." 🙄
Reminds me of Butch after squeaking by App St in our 2016 opener. Refused to address or even acknowledge any constructive criticism from the press. Butch - "I'm never gonna apologize for win."

Things are better.

Come on, when Dooley was hired, you would have thought General Neyland was back. Anyone who dared question the hire or the results were flamed mercilessly with ZERO facts and 100% name calling.
Uhhh, I'm not so sure this is true. The fan base was in a whirlwind after the lane train rolled out of town. But, there was a lot of questions about the LA Tech coach coming with his losing record.
