How The Vols Got "less than they deserved"

Here we go again with the whiners claiming UT got screwed. Auburn dominated us even though we ended up scoring a TD late to make it look respectable. Get over it dude and while you're at it get a life for God's sake.

Tennessee and Georgia had better conference records and Kentucky, Georgia and Arkansas all beat Auburn on the field so the 9th best Sec team gets the 4 or 5 th best bowlgame. You tell me who came out smelling like a rose. :banghead2:

I went to the OutBack bowl when we played PSU that last time. What a HORRIBLE trip. Rain, cold, traffic SUCKED getting off the expressway, and we lost on a stupid fumble. I swore I would never go to Tampa for a football game again. I LOVE that we are going to the CFA bowl. I love it even MORE that UGA is going to Shreveport. I wanted this matchup and THAT is what this fan base should be focusing on. Playing a nobody at 11 AM is not a good thing (remember Ole Miss?...we don't have a good track record at 11 AM). We are playing a ranked team, a team we have wanted to play for years, and in an electric setting where we have much unfinished business. Quite whining and complaining about getting screwed and be happy that we are bowling, doing it in Prime Time, and in a region where our best player is from and where we are trying to recruit heavily.

i'm kind of tired of chik-fil-a and outback.
i would prefer a non-food bowl.

i was disappointed at first as well, but like the time slot better as well. just keep thinking about how maryland and clemson handled us in the last peach bowls and hope it doesn't turn out that way.

the 10:00 am thing for outback isn't fun.
nothing like sitting around feeling miserable until the hangover pizza can be delivered.

:peace2:

With what I am reading, it doesn't sound like the Chic-Fil-A Bowl is a sure thing. It sounds like they are waiting to see what happens in the ACC championship game. Tennessee could still be dropped down to the Independence Bowl.

Doesn't matter. What's done is done and I think it works out best for us. We get a bowl that will likely have more national exposure due to it's time slot. We get a superior opponent and superior game; prestige and respect is earned against quality competition.

Who else would they take?

Now that CFB is rigged to be a "BCS or BUST" scenario.... It really matters not which bowl we go to other than percieved "prestige"... I'd rather go to the CFA bowl and beat a highly ranked VT team given my druthers, but considering where we were this time last year any bowl is better than none at all....

Congratulations to the Vols for being selected to go to the Chick-Fil-A Bowl to face Virginia Tech.

NOW

Based on the quote from Cartervol, I was listening to 104.5 The Zone's ClayNation show and a conspiracy theory came out that the Vols got screwed out of the Outback Bowl was there are Gator officials on the bowl selection committee and they wanted to make sure that Tennessee or even Georgia do not get as much national exposure if possible on New Year's Day and to make sure either or go to a lower tier bowl game. So they picked Auburn and so we got picked to go to the bowl on New Year's Eve while Georgia got banished to the Independence Bowl. I mean this sounds crazy but I did not imagine that reps from the University of Florida would play a role in who plays in the Outback Bowl.

Man, I love these conspiracy theories!!!! Makes for good blogging fodder. Thanks for the great post.

No Sale..... If that's true heads will roll if it could be proven. My thought is that nobody would tune in to see a game that was played two years ago.... No more, no less. Tennessee actually can come out of this situation better off if they can lay a good ole Southern smackdown on VT. Wisconsin isn't even in sniffing distance of the top 25 while VT is potentially a top 10 opponent if things shake out just right....

I agree with you. Both Tennessee and Virginia Tech are poised to become NC contenders over the next few years. They're both young with tremendous upside. This game could be a preview to the NC game in a couple of years. The truth is we need to be playing the best competition outside of our conference that is available. We close this season with Virginia Tech and open next year with Oregon (I believe). That should give the coaches and fans a good insight into the team's progress. Good Post!

People tend to forget that they beat our a$$ at our place this year and Auburn they deserve the better bowl. I hate to say it but its true

We are a different team now my friend. Teams we beat, beat them and vice versa. WE DID GET THE SHAFT, but I have wanted this match-up for years. GO VOLS

ditto. ticket sales, money, and politics is why auburn will end up in tampa. the same thing goes on with any non-BCS bowl

UT could not guarantee the ticket sales for the OB bowl. UT doesn;t believe they will sell out the tickets they have for Atlanta (if they end up there which I think they will). They expect Monday to release tickets to be sold to general public.

there was some politics involved in decision but the PRIMARY # 1 REASON is lack of support. Vol fans showed it during the season with empty seats and recent history at bowl games. Will take a few years or more to show the Vols will travel...

This sounds like we were given an opportunity to ante up and said no, thanks. No wonder Kiffin was so depressed Monday night.

Neyland Stadium 2/3 full has more fans than many stadiums filled over capacity. And the Ole Miss game had an awful lot of orange in those stands, and that was a further distance than Atlanta. So there is support.

If the bowl game system is about nothing but money, okay, but they should drop all pretense of post-season play as any sort of ranking or reward system and just let it be a popularity contest or fan raffle. Heck, auction spots off on eBay to the teams who want it most. But if bowl games are going to be nothing more than exhibition games with nothing at stake, I'll bet a lot more fans stay home.

Actually VT is a regional adversary and a much better team than Wisconsin. Then again i think there are way to many bowl games. What id like is another crack at UCLA. Go getem Kiff

I did not think that UCLA even made a bowl. Which bowl is discussing them?

I got a good question for yall. I wanted to make a new thread, but I just joined and the website is saying that I don't have the privileges to do so....

Do you think the outcome of the SEC/National Championship game has an impact on recruiting for the Vols?

If so, regardless of the hatred against either of the teams, who are we cheering for with respect to UT recruiting?
