How the heck is Norvell not one of the front runners?

This is the only objection to Norvell I have seen based on something tangible. He is essentially coaching Fuente’s guys. I would counter with he had developed those guys which was something the last staff couldn’t do.

Toine you from Memphis correct, you’ve seen Memphis play any this year and last year.. impressed with Norvell and what he’s done.. Fuente took his offense and tweaked it from Norvell while he was at ASU.. he’s recruited well at Memphis also

I like Norvell. He is probably 3rd on my list of behind Rodgers and Frost. I wish we could see a season 3 out of Norvell first but we are here now. I would want to see who he has in mind for coordinators. I also worry about the staff he would be able to put together and their ability to recruit.

Frost beat Norvell by like 30 when they played this year.

Memphis was playing without 7 defensive starters in the UCF game. Ferguson had the worst game of his career (3 TO in the red zone).

The defensive injuries allowed the predominantly Freshman and Sophomore defense that has been playing since that game to get a lot more playing time and gel into the best defense Memphis has had in around a decade.

The AAC Championship will not be a blowout. Memphis will win straight up.

He has a staff at Memphis that's good enough for Notre Dame and other Power 5 schools, but not UT? His OC from last year (Chip Long) is the OC for Notre Dame and has been the reason for their offensive turnaround.

He had 3 other assistants that were offered P5 jobs last year. His contract extension last year added no $ to his pay, added another year to his contract, and added $ for his assistants. These assistants chose to stay at Memphis for the same $ vs the P5 schools that were offering.

Norvell may or may not be Butch 2.0...but the situation is. 2 coaches having some success immediately after taking over for a guy who built a program. Neither with any time to recruit or succeed with their own players prior to getting the call to the big leagues.

If we're doing this...get Campbell. At least Iowa State is HIS project and not someone else's.

This statement is just absolutely false. Just because you read it somewhere on this message board and a bunch of people that know nothing about the Memphis program continue saying it, doesn't make it true.

I'm a Memphis alum and season ticket holder. So here are the facts. True, Norvell has capitalized on Fuente's turning around the program. However, he is "not playing with all of Fuente's players." 7 Offensive starters are either Freshmen, Sophomores, or Jr/Sr transfers. 8 Defensive starters are the same. The depth chart shows the same trend. This is predominantly a team built by Norvell, not Fuente.

Norvell recruited Ferguson and made him the best QB in the Southeast. Norvell's 2 Sophomore RBs (one that just went for 1,000 on the season) beat out the Senior Dorceus earlier this year. The best kick returner in the Nation, Tony Pollard (4 KO TD and had 2 more called back), is a Sophomore at Memphis.

What about Frost coaching O'Leary's guys. The seniors on UCF were part of a team that went 12-1 and then 0-12. The 0-12 is more indicative of a coach that quit, not a talentless team.

Been a few of us here have said this over and over on this board.. it’s like being snobbish to me to not want Norvell.. some got this Old UT mentality that he comes from Memphis don’t want, I don’t get it

Why not? We have been settling for mediocrity since 2009. Might as well keep the mediocre hires going. Mike mediocre Norvell is the next coach at mediocre U.

If you actually studies Tennessee's real football history, it IS mediocre U. Take out the Legend Phillip and it is below mediocre U.
