How the heck is Norvell not one of the front runners?

Just read the thread on Leach. Can someone give me any hope....any at all....that we might get Norvell or Frost instead? Humor an old man and tell me we aren't trotting Leach out there as our next coach.

Leach commented after the game saying the Tennessee stuff is just rumours. I like leach allot. Lot of respect. Just don't think his style of play would work against sec defenses

Like it has previously been said Frost beat them down the first time they played.

Yeah I know, but that post was about the championship game next Saturday, not their previous meeting this season. I was suggesting that they could both be at different schools by next Saturday...

Don't know but I do know Frost will be favored. Same deal as the upcoming SEC championship game. Auburn will be favored.

It's hard to beat a good team twice in one season. And I think Memphis is a better team now than thery were then. That's why ill be interested to see. If they are both coaching that is.

Memphis may be better but Frost still undefeated.

Yeah, it didn’t work well the first time around did it? BTW Malzahn just beat Saban by 12, is he the better coach?

Mike Leach coached at Kentucky years ago. I think he had the best offense at the time> I thought he turned Tim Couch into a first rounder with his offense. I would rather have him over Norvell and some of the other second tier coaches as he is a proven winner at every stop.

Norvell may or may not be Butch 2.0...but the situation is. 2 coaches having some success immediately after taking over for a guy who built a program. Neither with any time to recruit or succeed with their own players prior to getting the call to the big leagues.

If we're doing this...get Campbell. At least Iowa State is HIS project and not someone else's.

He's not because of the works of the previous two head coaches at Tennessee. Those individuals have a similar head coaching resume to Norvell and turned the Tennessee program into the Kansas of the SEC.

That isn't on Norvell. But this job needs to be given to someone with experience, preferably at the professional or P5 level, building and sustaining a program. Failing that, you need someone like a Taggart or a Brohm with experience with a full-on mid-major rebuild.

You don't hire a boy to do a man's job. This is what has hurt us in the last decade.
exactly right. Odds not that Norvell might not be a good coach. It's that he's a tough sell.

I hate it too, but that’s become the way the game is played.

I personally don't hate it. Pros and college do it. Its just funny that the posters complain about our qb not throwing a ton downfield when almost no on does. Then they see a team with a bunch of passing stats and want that offense, not knowing its the same short passes, just with better play-calling and yac.

He isn't even Butch, let alone Butch 2.0. He has two season that matched the prior seasons. He didn't improve a program or turn a losing team around.

Just a rumor but word is he had a red flag on his background check that scared all big names away. Memphis and him are currently negotiating a new contract.

This makes absolutely no sense to me. Hire this guy!!!
I went to the Memphis game yesterday. 49-0 at halftime was very impressive. My concerns would be that he's only been a head coach for 2 years, and that he may not know how to recruit top level talent. With that being said, I'd take him over some of the other names mentioned.

I heard it reported a few days ago that he was vetted and it was decided he’d no longer be a viable candidate. No idea why. I’m with you though...what he’s doing at Memphis is beyond impressive. But, this is Tennessee, so expect the worst. The probably found out that he has some connection to the university, program or state and that automatically disqualified him.

This is the only objection to Norvell I have seen based on something tangible. He is essentially coaching Fuente’s guys. I would counter with he had developed those guys which was something the last staff couldn’t do.
