Remember when we were hiring a football coach last year?

(Media/Boards): The leading candidate is Will Muschamp."
(Will Muschamp) "I am not going to UT"

(Media/Boards): The leading candidate now is Troy Calhoun.
(Troy Calhoun) "I am not going to UT"

(Media/Boards): OK, now the leading candidate is Kevin Steele
(Kevin Steele) "I am not going to UT"

and so on.

It seemed like everyone was in the news for turning down UT. So THIS TIME, I'm hoping for no leaks from the UTAD's office, no undue media speculation, and no public denials by prominent candidates.

Lawrence Frank is gonna have to deny something tomorrow, or I will be pretty convinced that he is the guy.

No matter how good any candidate happens to be, I'm not getting my hopes up nor will I get too deeply involved in the rumors.

(Now if I only believed that.)

You can go back further in history with the basketball program and find even greater examples of failure.

I'll say it again our next coach presser will be closer to the "who the hell is jerry green" than here is the next "big fish". The timing with the AA is all wrong again. I was going to start a thread remember the football search and all the big fish coaches we wanted. So nice thread. We will get a small fish where "this is the greatest job I ever had" coach. Which isn't bad. We have the hair now(Dooley.) GBO..

don't put much into that, last person I remember saying yes that would be my dream job while employed at another job was Jim Moora Jr with the atlanta Falcons. he didn't last to long after that. also its not been that long ago that everyone was turning down the Alabama football job. its coach speak and a smart coach will say that until a contract is in front of them.

now with that said maybe we did offer all those guys the job before dooley, but there is no way to know that for sure.

I'm not saying don't reach for the sky with the offers, I'm saying where we start and where we end up will be several steps down from where all of the speculations are. I hope a lot of fans will not be upset when we have to settle for a lower tier coach. Again its just the timing with AA.

Yes because we all know how good our AD has been at avoiding these things.

Welcome to VN :hi:

On a side note I completely agree.

Does anyone have any idea on how long it might take the NCAA to cone down with punishment once the basketball allegations are accepted (by Pearl) without taking the time to appeal in front of the committee?

Between the history of UT bb and the quality of a MH hire, I'm not optimistic on the next coach. Good chance you'll be eating jello at the 4:30 buffet the next time UT bb gets to the level we just saw

I'm not sure a "big name" like Frank is what we need. He is a pro coach whose resume is not building a college program, recruiting HS kids and promoting the team. The skill set is different for the 2 positions. My preference would be a hungry successful mid-major guy who gets a chance of a life time and will make the best of it. I will support whoever is selected, but I believe a fresh face will be more successful. I agree that negotiations should be kept private as much as possible even though us fans like to know what is going on. FWIW.

How not to run a coaching search? No matter who the AD is and what the school is, there is going to be wild speculation on the media boards. Good luck controlling that.
