How much will Todd Kelly Jr change our defense when he comes back

Disagree. Lets say we had Berry, would we still have the same DL and LBs? If so, then the D wouldnt really improve. If it did, it would be minimally.

Peyton with this OL, TEs and WRs? Lol. Peyton would be getting killed like JG has been. Then when he does make a great pass, the WRs would likely drop it. Of course, thats if they could get open.
What about Dobbs? Or Cam Newton? You can’t tell me adding either one of those guys doesn’t make our offense instantly better. If I recall Gene Chizik went 4-8 the year before cam got there, then 13-0 with a natty when he arrived.

Chizik went 8-5 in 2009 and went 14-0 in 2010. Yes they got better. But lets not pretend like the 2009 AU was garbage. They took the nationl champions Alabama to the wire, only losing by 5 pounts. They beat a good Ole Miss team. They also won their bowl game. Did they go winless in conference play or struggle to beat one of the worst teams in college football in 2009? No. Did they go almost 4 entire games without an offensive TD in 2009? No.

My point is, context matters. We all view Peyton as an all time great college QB. And he was. But he had great teams around him. None of our current WRs would start over the ones Peyton had. And Smith would be the only OL that would have a chance of starting on the OL. Defensively, teams would just throw away from Berry because nobody else in the secondary can cover anyone. So in the end, we would see minimal improvement. JMO of course.

5-7 in 2008 (2-6)
8-5 in 2009 (3-5)
14-0 in 2010
8-5 in 2011
3-9 in 2012
If the 2010 team was so stacked, why did they go 3-9 and get chizik fired just 2 short years after cams departure? Cam was the X factor

Couldn't hurt it. Question whatever happened to Dillon Bates? From what I heard the kid was suppose to be pretty good.

He's hanging out with Kenny O'Neal. Probably pumping gas in New Jersey. Dillon, we hardly knew ye.

Defense I feel like has improved this year compared to the last few years, as far as TKjr goes his first few years he was a ball hawk always seemed to be around for the int or fumble recovery. Then like so many under past leadership, injuries and whatever the negative mental aspect brought on by Butch derailed him

Maybe, but peyton was great because he had a big brain not a big arm. JG doesn't have that same skill set. He makes terrible reads and doesn't shift protections well. Also, Peyton was the dude and you don't wanna piss off the dude.

Tkjr is always around the ball and has made some huge plays he may not have the speed as some of the others we have but his experience will trumph having a true freshman back there. He could help get some of the defense in the right coverage etc. Having him back could only help!!!

We could get Eric Berry back and we're not greatly improving immediately. I don't even care about the W's and L's over this next month until Nov 3 when we play Charlotte. Just want to see guys out there competing, our young players showing strides, and watching how Pruitt coaches when we are severely out gunned talent wise over the next 3 games vs UGA, AUB and Bama
If we had EB back we would be a top 25 defense instantly. I think people forget just how dominate of a player he is. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that when he’s off the field the Chiefs get lit up. Their defense has been one of the worst in the league this year. He’s such an instinctive player that he’s able to change a game on one play alone. The pick 6 against Tebow, the hit on Knowshon. He’s a a game changer and besides Barnett we haven’t had any of those on defense in a long time.

I don't care how "slow" Kelly is, one of the few players we who has made big plays in the past.

CT this isn’t a personal attack against you. It’s just a notion I disagree with.

People say we can get EB back and our D isn’t improving. We could get Peyton back and our O isn’t improving. I call bull on both. We need players like them. They make everyone around them better, even make coaches coach harder.

No offense taken brother, we're all entitled to our opinions. Obviously, have an all world talent like EB wouldn't hurt the situation. But what I know from playing the game, coaching the game, and being a fan of the game is this. Football is ULTIMATE team sport. It is the only game where you are truly only as good as your weakest link. Eric Berry back there would be awesome, but we'll still have our defensive line getting pushed around. Still having linebackers missing tackles and reads, and younger defensive backs just being over matched.

My main point is right now, no 1 or 2 guys individually, especially one like Todd Kelly Jr, is making any major impact this year. Too much else to overcome.
