dip was the previous season and how much can be attributed to the economy? I attended more games this year then the last five years combined and I can tell you was solely due to the new energy brought by CLK. Has our fanbase really degenerated into a bunch of fairweather folks? Have the Titans hurt the Vols (I know of several nashville couples that dont go anymore because of the NFL)? What say you?

Economy and opponents failing to sell out their allotment in most cases.

I think most of the problem lies in the economy.

However, with that said if we were winning more games than people will find the money to pay.

A bad schedule, coupled with a QB who at the time couldn't throw a ball in the ocean with his feet in the sand, made for some down times this season.

Winning is a cure-all, though.

This is it...when the opponents failed to sell their tickets, the economy is hurting enough that the extra tickets weren't going to the fans making that last second decision to go to the game. most just sided on saving the money and watching it in HD at home...:cray:

I usually try to go to a few games each year but this year I coughed up $125 to get the ESPN gameday package in lieu of tickets to a game. I almost would rather watch the games at home on my HDTV then go out in the rain (ohio & sc). I really wanted to go to the UGA game but my 10 month old was sick. Next year I will be going to some games (oregon, florida, alabama).

the dip in attendance this year is somewhat embarrasing. The economy didn't affect a lot of the big teams in cfb. What was the deal here??

how can more people have gone to see Fulmer's trash the last two years than this years team??

There are only 3 other stadiums in America besides Neyland with 100k+ seats. Tough to sell that many when people have grown accustomed to sucktitude under The Fat Fired Coach. When Kiffin gets a full roster of his recruits and starts winning big, those empty seats will fill up.

Economy and a lot of fans are not going to buy into Kiffin right away(sad but true). Ive been to at least one game every year, and that will not change no matter what the economy looks like or who our coach is.

I don't think there's any question that the NFL team in Nashville has hurt the Vols' attendance some. How could it not? The number of football fans in Tennessee who actually go to games is pretty small, and having an NFL game in Nashville on Sunday is going to make that Saturday drive to Knoxville and back look like a PITA to a lot of fans in middle Tennessee.

The economy didn't affect a lot of the big teams in cfb. What was the deal here??

100,000 seats is a crapton for a small state, especially one with its biggest city 400 miles away. Those last 10-15,000 seats are going to be a lot more vulnerable to swings in the economy, how well the team is playing, other teams traveling, prevalence of HD in everybody's living room, etc. than they would be at someplace like Ohio State, which sits in the middle of a state with several times the population and cranks out twice as many alumni.

The SEC TV contract didn't help matters either, but it is awfully nice for those living out of the area.

There are the Fulmer (skoal patrol) supporters who very likely will continue to support this team from the confines of home. They will be replaced by a younger, more energetic crowd once the economy rebounds some.

The stadium shrunk so there aren't as many seats. Was the % down or just overall numbers. Games under 100k mean more when you seat 107k than 102k

Fans want to see winners and 2 losing seasons in three years and getting beat down by uf and bama in our last decent season is not going to fill the stadium . Beat uf and I promise the place is rockin the next week next year 102,000 strong . Lose to uf and it will be empty seats the next week .

Elements of both.

Folks on this board are excited about the new energy and thats a lot of alumni support. But it seems to me that with a stadium of your size, alumni attendance is only part of the bigger picture. Right now, you have a couple of classes there at UT that over the last 2-3 years have been there with not much to be that excited about with the football team. They don't have the perspective of ups and downs like us older fans have and reality is you've got a bunch of students there now that are basically just kind of bored with it.

I mean, to them, even with this excitement about the future, they still see a 7-5 team and wonder what all the fuss is about. It'll come around as the team does.

Students having to pay for tickets now may have played a role... sad but true is that we've lost more home games these past few years than I'd like to admit. It's nice to see us play inspired football again. Another factor could've been people didn't know which Crompton was gonna show up... maybe.
