How much money is LSU.....

Im happy with Wilcox and really hope he stays, but Chavis has proven that his defense is EXTREMELY effective when he has the right talent for it. He and Fulmer are such good friends that you doubt he'd consider coming with Fulmer out of the picture, probably wouldn't feel right to him. But then again, Chavis' heart will always be in Tennessee wherever he's at, and that, along with a nice pay raise would possibly be enough to bring him back. Again, this is just hypothetical.

Well if Wilcox goes we will have to hire another DC. How is this SO hypothetical? We will be in the market for a splash hire. We can't afford to bring in a up and coming project coach. that would set us back even more.

You can get elite talent to Knoxville. However, you can't do it without putting some effort in. Seems Chavis didn't really enjoy having to go out and recruit.

I know it has to be easier to recruit to LSU because they have more in state talent, but like I said we had plenty of defensive talent when Chavis was at UT too. Even if he never left campus while at UT (which I don't believe) we still did pretty well in the recruiting department while he was here.

I don't see John coming back to UT, but its not going to be because he can't recruit.

For arguments sake lets say we really turn the corner next year, win a lot of games, and look really competitive. Wilcox leaves and takes another job. With Hamilton gone, Kiffin no longer here, and Dooley on the right track, I could see Chavis at least being interested if we offer. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility, but I doubt it happens.

Its hypothetical because Wilcox is still on staff with Tennessee, is OUR DC, and has NOT been offered a HC job atp. There is no point in even having a discussion on replacing him when the man has yet to even leave. Wilcox will be here next season imo.

Pretty sure he was just offered one.

I do too. I started this thread because of the HC rumor offers for Wilcox. I don't think Wilcox is ready for HC job. Not even sure he would want to be. I'm suggesting that Chavis is a legit candidate if Wilcox goes. IF.

Being a candidate and being offered are completely different things. He has not been offered a HC job atp. He's supposedly a candidate for ASU's HC position, but I dont think he'll get it in the end.

Good lord!! short memories, many on this web site badmouthed the chief to death a few years back (3rd and chavis ring a bell?)...now the chant is bring him back. I thought very highly of him then and now, but as much as I would like to have a VOL back here like chavis...if I were him I would strongly consider giving us fans a middle finger salute.

It amazes me how many folks here and TOS spend wasted time badmouthing former VOLS (and current VOLS) when those who are doing the badmouthing have done little or nothing for TENNESSEE.

GO VOLS and best wishes to all who wore, wear, and/ or coached the ORANGE, extra cudos to those few who were lucky enough to do both. GO VOLS

Here we go again with the "what ifs".Here's one for ya "what if " Hitler had had the A-bomb to attach to the V-2 rocket? ''What if"no one will pay CJW more than UT is paying him. "What if " the mods ban the "what if " posts from this MB ? :loco:

I always thought Chief Chavis got decent players and turned some into good players but lets face it, since his second year at LSU he has stacked the talent deep and thick, I cannot recall a TN defense with that much talent on the field at the same time ever when he was here

Chief's sense of loyalty toward Fulmer is why he wouldn't come back if offered. He may love UT, but he also loves Fulmer, and as long as Phil has sour grapes, Chavis stays away. JMO

Personally I hope Wilcox stays.
