I'd say they have quite a bit more than 5 million. Heck, they make more than that after a single home game against the likes of Buffalo. Lets say an average ticket cost $50 for a non SEC team like Buffalo. I think they raked in 96k for Buffalo. 96,000 x 50 = 4.8 million. That's just the ticket sales, not counting concessions, memorabilia, or parking. Imagine what a sold out Florida, Bama, or Georgia would rake in. It's in the 10's of millions....We had 8 home games last year....Just sayin.
I was listening to sports talk on my commute home, and if I am not mistaken Jimmy Hyams said that UT's Ath Department only has 5 million stashed away. Bammers on the other hand has stock pilled some 80 million on the back burner.
First off, is this a pretty accurate figure?
Secondly, does this mean we can't throw a whole bunch of money at a lot of coaches? I know the negavols will enjoy this, but would it hamper our ability to replace Dooley?
Lastly, what caused UT to be in that situation? Was it all of the renovations that Hammy put us up to, or is it all of the coaches' buyouts that we are involved with?
That's just football ticket sales. That's not counting other athletic revenue. Theoretically they could pay for the renovations in 3 years (less if UT has a top team) with just the football tickets. I'd say the renovations will take far longer than it would to generate the money. IIRC UT football has been in the top 10 generated revenue for quite some time. In their worst seasons they were raking in 80 mil a year. But UT stadium renovations are scheduled to exceed $200 million! Alabama's recent stadium renovations only cost $65 million.
Well I cant stop you from doing that. I thought you could choose where donations went. I would think with STHs that donations for AD would be pretty high.

Nor can I stop you from wishful thinking. My main line of thinking is why would be that low as compared to Bama? I mean just as everyone keeps saying we can donate more money and what not, Bama can say the same.
^^^^This.I was thinking the same thing. Thats also why we should have a better product on the field and coaching staff! Just my thoughtsThat's just football ticket sales.
