I know he's the best we have right now, but at what point do we decide its time to build for next year. If were gonna lose I'd rather do it with Coleman than Stephens or Crompton. Cromptons decision making is way way off ... He cant seem to find the soft spot in the defenses and many times his throws are a tad late and allows the defense to catch up. And for the life of me I cant understand why he wanted to act crazy like he did when took on the DB and we were down 27-0. Do something when it matters then celebrate as if you've accomplished something.

Nunes eyes have to be bigger than saucers because he knows he can compete for the job next year...that is if he stays committed

Earth to Vol armchair coaches.........Crompton is the best we have. You all that are hoping that he gets replaced, you'd better be careful what you wish for.

It may not seem like it, but it can get worse.

If we can get him to quit forcing throws that turn into turnovers, then I feel that he is still serviceable. Statistically speaking (minus turnovers), he had solid numbers against a top tier team. Unfortunately, the only one who can quit making horrendous decisions and giving up costly turnovers is Crompton himself. He needs to focus on getting better at managing the game and make the other team earn their points. Psychologically, if he can break through today then he still has a chance to make a good QB. Let's be honest, our backups are so horrible that Crompton will always be the best choice.

Stevens throws a better ball and is more relaxed in the pocket... Id take that over what Crompton is doing anyday... Oh and I dont think we have a say in the matter to the starter of this thread

so you're not even considering possibly leaving gj in and seeing what he can do? i think he deserves a chance, if it's what he wants.

I am not convinced until we try. Where did you get your crystal ball? Do they come in orange because I would like to get one.

The problem is that Stephens and Coleman are not the likely 'future', with or without his portliness on the sidelines.

haha Crompton is a joke... i love my vols but damn when did we become so desperate?? looks like we have a High School QB in... rediculas(sp???)... anyways aside from that we just need new coaches .... why does everyone put blame on players if you have ever played football you know coaches make the calls... but seriously we need a new qb for sure

Gerald is our biggest recieving threat lets put someone back there that can feed him the ball... I like the Ggun but not for the whole game... they need to let GJ throw it down the field

I have seen very few games where a QB has managed a game this poorly. Two ridiculous situations come to mind:

1.) The drive at the end of the first half.

2.) The drive at the end of the third quarter where he just let 16 seconds run off the clock without running a play when we were down 27-0...

I just don't believe that JC is the best QB that we have right now. I wish they would've played Stephens or Coleman today for a bit to prove me wrong.

that's what i'm saying. he hasnt even had a chance to throw the ball. if he wants to stay behind center, i say let him, at least until he shows that he isnt capable. i know that he is the biggest threat downfield, but i think having a threat of a qb is slightly more important.

If GJ can throw the ball and manage the offense, I'd be all for it. However, I doubt he's spent much time studying to be the qb, and it would be really ugly.

I wish we had someone as mobile as GJ under center though. Now that I think about it, we almost beat a pretty good UGA with James Banks under center as a true freshman. I wish Philistine hadn't given up on mobility.

I'm disappointed for Crompton, and I had high hopes for him. He grew up bleeding orange and was highly rated out of HS... and waited for his chance. Its too bad. As far as what to do now... I'm not sure the grass is greener in this case.

i feel bad for crompton. what i don't understand is that he's been in the program for 3 years and hasn't progressed. is it the coaching or is it him. how many other ball players have not progressed after being in the program like cromptom.

Honestly I think he would have been alot better under Cut. he looked good in 06 against LSU

We'll give him til he graduates. That's what we do. We don't replace bad players or even try out other players just to see.

Pretty much every quarterback after Tee Martin and Cutcliffe's first departure...

Clausen- one of the top qbs his freshman year, then regresses every year, ending up not even being drafted.

Schaeffer- No comment

Clausen the sequel- a gapstopper. All heart and not much ability.

Ainge- never reached the potential that he had. A pro style qb who ended up being drafted in the late 5th round, and won't likely ever make it in the NFL.

We haven't had a gamer at QB since Tee Martin. Why in the hell doesn't the staff go after a run/pass threat?

I've been yelling from my mountaintop for it since he graduated. It's called "Peyton Derangement Syndrome."

I love Peyton like most Vol fans, but Phil has this mancrush so large that every time he recruits a qb, he gets all tingly at the thought of finding another Peyton. Every one 'reminds him of Peyton.'

He secretly believes that it is 1996, so he'll be able to coach a team like it's 1996.

Crompton will be our starting QB until the end of this year (barring odds of serious injuries)

I think a huge part of the problem might be learning a totally new system. I just don't think he can handle that big of a change all at once. Not trying to make excuses for him, but changing the playbook he's learned for the past three years has to be difficult.

you down him all you want, but to say Casey Clausen wasn't a "gamer" is just silly.
