Not to sound too cliche but...
it's up to the individual player's desire and discipline.
When that desire to grow in strength and size is so all-consuming
it overpowers the temporary pains of the process of making it happen,
the real gains begin. It becomes a new lifestyle, a lifelong everyday habit that produces the kind of powerful confidence that carries over into more than just athletic performance on the field and into every part of their life for as long as they keep working to make gains happen. Some will want it more than others and those are the same ones who will gain the most benefits. Some only do the minimum to "maintain" and then fall off. If you always strive to gain, you don't have to worry about just maintaining or falling off. Own the results and enjoy what you earn until it's just habit. Everyday lifestyle. You want it more than that Bama player and you work so much harder than him that you can toss him around the field like a rag doll, then that becomes the new normal. Just know he's down there in his gym working as hard as he can to make sure that doesn't happen. Only one team will be the stronger team. The one who wants it bad enough to work hard enough to make it happen. The more you sweat in the gym training, the less you bleed in combat on the battlefield. Visualize the size and strength needed to toss around Bama like rag dolls and see yourself doing the work to get that. Then just do what you see. Own it. It's yours for the taking. You take it and it's yours.

Every time UT get a new S&C coach everyone gets fired up. The gains you see won't be with the eye test. UT for the last 2 years passed the eye test of what a football team should "look" like. The gains are seen in stamina, staying healthy, etc.
I'm hoping he can improve our power and explosiveness. Did we ever replace our Nutritionist that left? I'm hoping some of our younger guys on the oline/dline can make some major weight gains.

Realistically in an off season, how much can we expect for improvement. Will we go from a line that struggled with App Dtate to a group that can push back against Bama? Will it be a more subtle gain in that we won't see a large strength (and speed) change but rather less injury?
Well. ... Here's to hoping Rock can bring out the best of their abilities!Less injury. No injuries to OL because of Strength training. Concussions and knee and Ankles happen Not one can be related to how strong one was. Speed and Explosion happens more with quickness and explosion than speed. Muscle strength and better control of body fat help here. All players can gain in these areas but to how much depends on how blessed one is with ability. When I train kids I never promise any of them I can make them run 40 in 4.4 for backs 4.9 for lineman. There is a limit to each person to how much they increase by what they are blessed by GOD. Now I do tell them I can help you get to what it is you can obtain to. Everyone makeup is different in strength and speed and quickness and Explosion
Last 8 or so years:
Smith
Asmusus
McKeefery
Wylie
Lawson
Sezerson
Gullickson
Did I miss any?

Though I like what's being said about Rock, and think he's the real deal, seems like every time we get a new SC, there's a rush to how much better the new guy is. He's got his work cut out, but hope he's legit.
The OL certainly needs to be in better shape. Butch let the tail wag the dog last year. Team needs a huge upgrade in conditioning across the board. They need to forget about injuries and hit this spring and fall. If folks go down, so be it. Go with what you have. Just make sure this team is in shape and used to being physical. Make damned sure the are fundamentally superior tacklers. Can't do that if all they do is thud or two hand touch during practice. All these surgeries keeping players out of spring ball isn't good news either. IMO those players missed spring. They'll have to earn their jobs back over the summer and fall. No practice....no play. Kinda tired of half the team out for the spring. Team needs a healthy dose of toughness drilled into them.
I really don't understand why anyone thinks a new S&C coach is going to be some miracle worker.
Were these guys all undersized and out of shape?
No way.
I mean, maybe they become more motivated in the gym? I don't know.
