How much credit does Mike DeBord deserve?

Wonder how many other Fast Space Offenses have scored more points lately. Times are changing in CFB.

The Vols were 29th in points per game. The Big 12 had three of the top 4 spots. Only Ole Miss broke the top ten for the SEC.

Baylor led the nation with 48.1 ppg while TN averaged 35.2.

2 more points vs FL.

then we need either 5 more points against Arky, or 6 more against Bama. If it's up to me, I'd take the 6 over the 5, heh.

So I'm thinking 9 points woulda gotten us to an awesome 11-1 result.

Like the way you think! However, we'd have had a tougher bowl opponent. Could have been harder to get to 11.

If our passing game, and utilization of our receiver corps improves in this off season then I would agree.

Our offensive stats would have improved during the season no matter who was coaching. That will tend to happen when you go from playing Alabama and Oklahoma to playing North Texas, Missouri and Vandy as your final three.

I think you need to separate defensive quality from overall team quality. Sure, North Texas is horrible, but Vandy and Missouri had extremely well regarded defenses before they played us (and subsequently everyone assumes that their entire team was horrible since we beat them, similar to Northwestern).

The o line was the biggest question on offense. They are night and day better than we have seen in 8 years.

Debord did a very good job with the o line.

Weaker opponents or not it was obvious how much our offensive line improved! As recent as last year we struggled against some of those same teams.

To me, it seemed clear as the season went along Debord became more in tune with all the talent he was blessed with and was getting more proficient in getting everyone involved.

Gotta believe on the offensive side of the ball Butch sees if we can get our passing game to the level we all want, we are going to be very, very hard to beat!

As far as defense goes I was happy with the way things were going until all the clutter of possible DC change. If we are going to make a change, I wish it would be done expeditious as possible. I hate being in the dark and only want what is best for my beloved Vols.

I guess it's human nature to be content with a situation until someone dangles a possible improvement in front of you! Sorry for a small rant!!

Dobbs was very successful on 3rd and long.

What games were you watching? I was at the Florida game when he called a QB run with 3rd and 8 and we HAD to have a first down. If we get a 1st down at that point, we run out the clock and win the game 27-21.

I saw several calls like this in the 4th quarter when we need much more aggressive play calling.

The game plan for Bama was outstanding on both sides of the ball. If not for a couple of highlight reel throws and catches by Coker and the Tide WR's Vols win that game. Hve to credit Bama they made two outstanding plays when they had to.
