How much better are we with Gerald Jones?

Seeing a guy of that caliber play in HS must have been a treat. IIRC he actually won 5 golds at the state track meet. Just an amazing athlete.

100m, 200m, 400m relay, long jump and triple jump, I think. There was one game that I didn't see in person where I think he had 5 touches total and scored 4 TDs, or something very close to that. 2 receiving and 2 punt returns.

I don't see how Nuke has fumbling issues because he had trouble on punt returns.

Percy Harvin didn't have that strength. It's not like we're talking about TO or Randy Moss
.

Nuke had issues holding on to the ball all of fall camp. He the goes on to drop his first punt return attempt. That's a problem.

Harvin gained 10 - 15 lbs in his days at UF. His junior season he made people missed and ran through arm tackles.

....dropping one punt doesnt really give someone "fumbling issues". It just means they don't need to be playing special teams (at least at that point)

When you fumble throughout fall camp then muff a punt during your first try it is a problem. I think it will be corrected, I'm not knocking him, but as of right now, he has issues holding on to the football.

the one in the game was not his fault he made the right play not to lunge down and try to catch the ball short of him and just didnt have his eye completly on the ball i guess and dropped it not a big deal...

You can't have possibly seen Harvin and believe that.

Looks aside he was top five among WR's in the bench press at the combine. I'm not knocking Jones in the least but to describe Harvin as anything less than a superlative athlete is silly.

I'm aware of how great of an athlete Percy Harvin is. His bench press numbers don't mean much when it comes to having Eric Berry or Nick Barnett coming at you. Not nearly as much as his speed and elusiveness do to be able to avoid a big hit or make them miss.

I could have thrown out Trendon Holliday at LSU, but wanted to go for another player more similar to how big Nuke is/will be. Holliday is a good bit shorter I believe.

You just changed your argument... or at least the evidence you used to support your original argument.

That being said, I heard the same stuff about Leonard Scott. Wide receivers don't get many chances to make people miss unless you are running screen passes and end arounds. Anything more than a few yards downfield, and a small WR will likely get plowed trying to catch the ball.

Nuke will have a good season, but he really needs a full year in the weight program before we know what he can do.

Yes... we won.

I have traveled back in time from next week, to let everyone know that we defeated UCLA 107-0.

 The "Kiffin shouldn't have ran up the score" idiots are foaming at the mouth.

Also, I believe we'll see Jones in the UCLA game for a few throws just to get him slightly warmed up for the Florida game (like Moore was for WKU game).

D. Moore will be available 100% for UCLA. Jones will probably be 100% for Florida (or at least I hope)

I don't see how Nuke has fumbling issues because he had trouble on punt returns. That has nothing to do with running after the catch and open field ability. I also don't see where Jones' strength makes him more dangerous in the open field. Percy Harvin didn't have that strength. It's not like we're talking about TO or Randy Moss.quote]

You gain strength when you choke coaches and refs. It works your forearms, biceps, and chest.

You seemed to have been questioning Harvin's strength. He could (and did) break arm tackles that would have brought down smaller/weaker receivers. Strength is absolutely a plus in open field running.

Now, if you are focusing exclusively on elusiveness then strength isn't that much of a factor. I'm not even sure how terribly elusive Holliday is as most of his yards are simply finding a seam and evaporating. He has genuine world class speed. (a term used so often to refer to people that don't even have NCAA qualifying times it makes me throw up a little when I hear it anymore) If on the other hand somebody gets a hand on him he's pretty much DRT at 5-5/160.

If you really want a benchmark for elusive in the open field you need to look at Brandon James.

Gerald helps us out on slants because of his quickness. however one of the longest injuries to totally get your movement 100% back from is a high ankle sprain so i hope he just gets enough action to loosen up and not reaggravate before going to the SWAMP

It's a shame Jones has that freakin' high ankle sprain. With the injury, and his playing time when he returns, it will be a season-long aggravation. Only time will allow recovery to a full 100%...especially playing on it every week. That being said, however, he looked amazing in camp this year from what I saw. Simply catching everything within reach--and several he shouldn't. Gerald Jones is a playmaker and will be a WELCOME addition to the starting lineup when he returns. I seem to think he will see the field this week, but definitely be back in regular rotation the 19th...we definitely need him for that one.

I hate Brandon James! I was so pissed at Fulmer & Co. for kicking it his way last season.

Do you think this team tries to avoid him or do they feel better about their coverage unit???

First of all, Geerald Jones is huge for our offense. But I think Teauge will eventually end up being the better wide receiver and Nuke won't be far behind. Teaauge wass VERY impressive considering it was his first game. Always seemed to get open and make the catch.
