He played a hybrid linebacker / cornerback role, usually lined up at the line of scrimmage against the slot wide receiver. He blitzed off the edge 2 times and after that PBU that almost went for 6 the QB refused to look his way. Jackson / Rogan was playing the traditional "Center Field" role


Will be interesting to see how Monte conutinues to use him. Was he using WKU as a live practice to work on technique and coverage skills from the LoS, or will he continue to play that position in support of run?

I like the idea of him playing there against a spread team, (IE: UF) because he will immediately be at the point of action on those veer runs that make that offense effective

How long did Berry play? It wasn't long and I couldn't find him on the field.

I wonder how Monte's use of EB will change his numbers over the course of the year.

He didn't play in the 2nd Half, as far as I know.

He was in on a couple of kickoffs in the first half though. He also should have had that pick 6 on WKU's second offensive play.

More tackles and chances for a sack. Chances are someone will pick EB up and someone on the DL will get the sack. That will hopefully rattle the QB and make him make more bad decisions resulting in more INTs?

He lined Berry up everywhere. He's really using him as weapon. I'm really looking forward to Saturday's game. I want to see our D against a better offense.

He even covered kickoffs which scares the hell out of me. Im just hoping nobody takes a cheep shot at him on a return.

He may have just used this past weekend to experiment with some different stuff because we were playing such a weak opponent. Who knows how the season will play itself out, he may return to his more traditional role once we find ourselves playing better teams.

He used him to instill fear in the qb. He took half of the field out of play for wku. I would imagine he will drop back into the tampa2 type set from time to time.

I hope EB shatters the INT return record during the Florida game leading us to a huge W.

Guy can dream cant he?

He missed badly on a WKU run off left tackle in the 2nd quarter. He was first guy in the backfield and came up empty-handed. Other than that, he looked as good as usual.

Not many people are talking about Lamarcus Thompson, but he played a helluva game defensively.

Absolutely... he was all over the place, give it a few weeks and they will be talking about him.

I tell you who else nobody gave credit too was Cooper and Nick Reviez....

For Reviez being a walk-on and having everyone in the right spot on the front 7 was very impressive.

Cooper blocked like he is a 5 year Senior...I hope we get production out of him like this all year.
Ya'll are right though, Thompson played fantastic. I am excited about this team!

Speaking of blocking...

Hardesty chopping down the WKU middle linebacker on that first TD toss to Stocker was fantastic.

It was a simple read for Hardesty, and easily executed...but, in recent years, nothing has been simple for the UT offense. That block was the difference in a sack and touchdown. And that touchdown signified that the rout was on.

I noticed that too! Even before Crompton completed the pass to Stocker, I said "did you see that block?!?"

Eric Berry is being used a lot like Monte used Ronde Barber when teams go three-wide.

Barber has more sacks than any other DB in NFL history.

I talked up Savion Frazier, said he would wind up taking away Thompson's starting spot. I still think Savion is a helluva football player but Thompson played a damn near perfect game. He has tremendous speed and there is absolutely no reason for him to come off the field.

I'd like to see EB drop back and play centerfield a bit more than we saw last week, which based on the talent difference and the fact UCLA is a prostyle offense, I think we will for sure.There were only a few times I saw him line up in a true SS position, but that could be because of the 4 and 5 wide sets they have allowed him to play nickel back more than normal.

When Eric Berry and Tebow hit each other at full speed, will it cause all the windows to shatter, like in the matrix? Or is that only reserved for when Rod Wilks hits people?

It will cause a cataclysm of Biblical proportions. The people will gasp so hard that all of the oxygen in Florida will be sucked away and cause a swirling black hole in what is now the swamp.

What i really like in CMK using EB in diffrent areas of the field, keeps the offence guessing coming out of the huddle " Okay where is Berry at now". IMO this is going to have the OC and the QB having 2 or 3 plays called in the huddle depending on where EB is going to line up on the field. What QB would want to run a boot leg pass to the side that EB could be blitz from?
