If we aren't a 10 win team by year 2, I am afraid it will be a long process.
Pruitt reminds me a lot of Kiffin in terms of "splash recruiting" and the staff he is building.
Kiffin was pretty smart in tailoring his offense to the few strong points of our returning players (rolling pocket passing scheme with Crompton).
I think our offense will be fine under Helton. He had a great offense at USC. I think much like Kiffin, Pruitt is going to work hard himself on the defense.
From a pure X's and O's standpoint, I think Pruitt will be fine as head coach, but also on his side of the ball being defense.
hard to speak in those kinds of absolutes, really.
i get what you're saying, but siap yesterday....we'll know by the end of year two just by watching this team play whether or not they get it, and look like a team capable of competing at the top of this league. regardless of any potential for championship contention.
i don't think it will, or should, take this staff long to put a team on the field that can compete. if they recruit like we think they can, and so far have shown, then i think by year 3 this program will look a lot different, and be competing for the division and conf. depth and development is still the biggest issue overall.
what can separate this staff from the previous staffs, is what will they do with the opportunities that will assuredly present themselves over the next two years?
when you find yourself in winnable situations against teams like FL, GA, OU, Bama, ARK, aTm, like CBJ did in his first 3-4 years, will this staff be able to do what they couldn't and close the deal more times than not?
and can/will they avoid the dumbfounding losses?
if this program is going to take that step, at some point, this program is going to have find a way to win games like that 15 OU or 15 Bama or 14, 15 FL type games.
cause we'll have those types of games again....and maybe sooner than we think. who knows.
but it's those types of games that can define a career and establish momentum going forward.
