I think Chaney will increase our chances to win each game. That does not mean we will win any more than we would have with Helton. If we played 162 games, like baseball, I would say probably 8-10 more games than we would have with Helton, or 5-6% more--so that equates to about a half a game over a 12 game stretch.

Don't understand poll. As in wins above Helton? Hard to say in year 1.

Did he get us extra wins during thr Dooley years?!?

Did he get UGA any extra wins?! Same record as richt with more talent.

At this point I'll say 0 or neutral. He hasn't proven himself capable of adding value to the talent. Thats why uga had to get lots of talent first. We need a lot more too.

So much logic. It's all probabilities. In reality, we could lose 2 more or win 2 more due to playcalling. With such small margins of difference, there is plenty of variance.

This isn't directed at you, because it's an interesting post, but really, preseason strength of schedule is basically worthless. Almost every year it seems like there are enough surprisingly good and bad teams in the conference to throw it completely off.

I mean, I guess technically he brings 1 win to the table as he currently has a 1 - 0 record as the Vols interim head coach the year Dooley was fired.

Zero if the offensive line isn't better. Otherwise 1-2 maybe.
I'm not ready to write Trey Smith off yet as Trey has yet to write himself off. Kennedy after the first few plays where supposedly there was confusion ended up whooping the rest of the day the WVU young man that had looked like an All American. Kennedy at center is better than average and is no slouch. Toss in the 5 star tackle coming in as a frosh and our OL suddenly does not seem to be a hot mess. If those three show up and can remain healthy the bulk of the season, we have a shot at being very serviceable on the OL IMO.

There can be a big chunk of improvement in year 2 after a change in blocking scheme. It's entirely possible we improve, however if we don't, all I am saying is scheme and play calling won't matter in that instance. There's not a lot you can do to scheme around no run blocking or pass blocking.

I can't see this team winning any more than one game better than last year maybe 2 if everything goes good. The OL is just such garbage that it's hard to say they can do better because without the OL the rest of the offense can't work right.

Spot on IMO. We have too many variables to say CJC can bring 2 wins or whatever. The OL should be better with the addition of some new players and some additional coaching which should tell you something about the quality of the OL last year. When you can start a true freshman over an upperclassman on the OL you have some bad OLmen last year. It remains to be seen if that's the case but I fully expect it.

CJC has had reputation of matchup type play calling but if you cant run the ball or give a receiver 2.5 seconds to get some separation against his DB before the QB gets blown up, the play call (and OC) don't mean squat.

I think as far as adding to the win total, we have many points that needs to be addressed. The biggest, does Wil Friend make an improved movement this year going forward? I think with CJC, we have a coach that can adjust and have in game corrections unlike the last staff. Not meaning to hate on Helton but I think his inability to adjust in game hurt his offensive production. I could be off base but I think CJC brings a claiming ease to CJP and he doesn't concern himself with the O..

I could be totally wrong, but I think we see an offense that's clicking on all eight and a 2-3 win game swing given schedule and the fact that Chaney can shift mid game plus knowing what his offensive weapons can and can't do. I think we see more production all around. Bottom line is this was a great hire and I see nothing but an upside to Offensive production.

Please do not set your expectations too high folks. The better players are still young and the older players need to exhaust eligibility and move on.. Chaney can't fix things until he has players that can play at this level.. Please don't expect a major jump

I see your point, but to lower expectations is not the answer.

Expect great things but understand that football happens.

A jump should be expected due to many factors that are independent of CJC. While another jump should be expected due to CJC’s experience as an OC in the SEC.

We know there were players that weren’t doing it the right way. How many will be gone for 2019 is unknown by me. I do expect the ones that were doing it right to continue to do it right. I also expect the new guys to do it right too. So maybe with addition by subtraction and addition by addition we will see a significant jump in performance and wins.

Hopefully Chaney can work alittle better around the OL shortcomings much better than Helton did. Helton thought he had the Hogs of Washington Redskins fame with some of his play calling.
