do we have on VN, especially from the following counties/areas:
(1) Sullivan
(2) Johnson
(3) Unicoi
(4) Washington
(5) Carter
(6) Morristown
(7) Greene

I'm from Carter County, lived in Elizabethton and attended Elizabethton High-class of '66. Currently living in northern VA.

I'm married to a Science Hill girl, and we get up to Johnson City a couple of times a year. It's a great area, though I really started enjoying the trip once I figured out where Ridgewood is.

I remember the winningnest high school coach in the country at Dobyns-Bennett....he coached baassssketball.

Born in South Carolina but got to Sullivan County as quick as I could to attend 1st grade at Lincoln Elementary

How about 2nd generation East "by god" Tennessean?!?!?!?

Mom was born and raised in Bluff City.
Dad born and raised in Bristol...Williams street between State street and King College.

That new billboard they put up is controversial. I know that "Johnson City, Home of the Man Cave" has a nice ring to it, but I'm not sure that's what they should be advertising.

I remember the State Championship team of 1960!

The longtime coaches of Carter County-Buck VanHuss (Hampton); Charlie Bayless (Happy Valley); John Treadway (Elizabethton).
My dad knew all three. He even played 8 man football for John Treadway at Happy Valley before John went to EHS.

I've heard alot about basketball in the 60's in that area of Tennessee. My dad played at for Coach VanHuss at Hampton. My dad graduated in '64.

Who is your dad? I remember some of the names of the players at Hampton in the 60's-maybe. I graduated from EHS in '66.

Some players in his class were Wayne Phillips, Jimmy West and Donnie Colbaugh. Jerry White was 2 years ahead of my dad. White played at South Carolina for a year before transferring to ETSU.

My dad was a pretty good ball player. He made all-conference as a junior and senior. The team his senior year started out 18-0 and were ranked number 1 in the state for awhile. I think they finished 26-4. That Bulldog team made it to the final 16.

Steve Spurrier was 1 year older than my dad and played at Science Hill. My dad's teams went 3-1 vs Spurrier during the 61-62 & 62-63 seasons. He loved that Hampton was a small school beating up on Spurrier's "big city" school. I think my dad always had to think back to those wins for a little bit of comfort after some of the big W's Spurrier has put on the Vols.

Hampton and Happy Valley were tough teams to beat. The Big 7 (back then) the teams to beat in the 60's were Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett. I can remember when Oak Ridge used to make the trip to upper East Tennessee for basketball season and played, Elizabethton, Hampton and either DB or Science Hill.
John Treadway had more wins than just about any high school basketball coach-over 700!
