Anybody got a feel how many of the 2018 signing class have played this year? Who are they trying to keep a red-shirt on?

Good question. Looking forward to the replies.

The new rule complicates answering it. Taylor, Thompson, and Carvin redshirts are definitely burned. Pretty sure the rest are still eligible including Banks and maybe Flowers.

besides paxton brooks, i think that's about it. i think Flowers is burned iirc.

shrout is definitley getting to keep his RS.

all those DL i think are still elligible for a RS as well. same with guys like Ollie lane and Tanner anatoutiie

I know JJ had a social media post with 4 games circled. It will be interesting to see if he gets in those. the first one was Bama so he could be seeing special teams actions.
If the 4 games he circle holds true to him playing that will be a good thing. Pruitt is so much better at managing player condition and snaps than Butch. He seems to have a plan for each player related to health, conditioning, and playing time. So far it seems to be excellent planning and execution. Instead of throwing JJ to the wolves this would signal he knew how long to work him into a conditioned and ready player before turning him loose.

They’ll be heavily relied on, IMO. Gonna be tough to replace Tuttle, Phillips, Johnson, Bane, and Kongbo.

I totally disagree. Kongbo is already out and until the last game didn’t produce a ton. His replacement came in and got a very key sack. Bain is a walk on who is playing by necessity and thankfully as a Senior can hold his own. We have two JUCO commits with great size. I think we are deeper on the DL next year.

Bane has been better than Tuttle this year. I see no way we are deeper next year after losing our top 4 defensive linemen. That’s a very optimistic opinion you have, but I hope you’re right.

Why is it overly optimistic? At tackle you are bringing in 2 JUCO guys that have scholarship offers all over the country to replace a walk on that’s starting out of necessity and another tackle that you claim the walk on is playing better than. From a talent perspective they should be an upgrade.

Not to mention Darrel Taylor, Deandre Johnson, Emerson, Bennett, Butler, Gooden (who I think is better than both Bain and Tuttle in the long run), Garland, Kingston Harris and Crosby (who are likely to be moved back considering our OL class) and two more freshmen DTs that are currently committed.

Much deeper.

agreed. just from a #'s standpoint, we probably will be.

the unknown is if any of these guys coming back would be considered difference makers. not that anyone we have this year is...but i'd say Phillips, Tuttle and Johnson have all had a very good year, relatively speaking to the rest of their careers here....and i wish they were all coming back....

i was happy to see Deandre get in there and make a difference....

but at the end of the day, yeah, i think numbers wise, we're gonna be fine.

no idea on what the quality will be.

This is 3 seasons that we have used Walk On's in a significant role. We used Jumper for two seasons and now Bain.

But he had his chart....
