This is what Wikipedia says;

In NCAA basketball, (W)NBA basketball, goaltending is also called if the ball has already touched the backboard while being above the height of the rim in its flight, regardless of whether it being in an upward or downward flight or whether it is directly above the rim.

By that definition it should have been call goaltending.

I thought the ball was clearly in the cylinder - just shows it’s a judgement call as we all can’t agree after watching the replays. I choose to enjoy the narrative of KY getting screwed.

The ball hit the cylinder resulting in a bounce.

Technically, it wasn’t on the cylinder at the time when Reid made hand contact with the ball so that’s why the call wasn’t reversed.

It was a tough call to make but they got it right.

They can’t review or reverse goaltending call by rule.

They went to the monitor to see if he beat the clock.

Everyone saying it was “clearly” above the rim, clearly have the benefit of multiple replays, including a birds eye view of the rim. From the floor, in real time (fractions of a second), that a tough call to make, especially when the ball was clearly falling away from the basket, above the rim or not.

I understand the cylinders to be the rim extending upwards? In the cylinder doesn’t only mean touching the rim correct?

If the ball was still on the rim when Reid touched the ball, it’s a clear offensive basket interference

In this situation, it doesn’t matter if the ball was over the rim, it wasn’t touching the cylinder.

The ball was up for grabs.
