How many of you are tired of Heupel not able to win big games??

Meh...the game wasn't lost on a single mishap, but rather a cascade of them on the branching tree of events. Going conservative after the strip-sack and missing the field goal are the obvious ones, but I'm sure there were others. That was the most complete game a Vols team has but together against the Leghumpers since 2016, or at least it felt like it. There's no reason to be proud of a loss, ever...but something worth keeping in perspective is that there wasn't a single point in time that the game was out of reach, up until the OT TD by the hydrant-irrigators.

OP obviously knows nothing of the final Fulmer years, then Kiffin, Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt...20 yrs of lower than mediocre.

Let's give the man another 3 at least.

If at that time he has become our "Richt" then lets invest and move on.
I'm rolling with YOU! He certainly shouldn't get some type of lifetime contract because he's built a decent team. If we are to play of championships, we need better than decent. 8 years to prove it should be plenty.

It is very clear that even with teams not that good, when a big game comes around that the VOLS need to win, Heupel alters his persona and strategies to play it safe, not have discipline on the team (thus silly mistakes) and here we will be once again: a bunch of meaningless wins and NO championships. He has done a great job of getting the team out of the dungeon, but seems to lack that "special it" that makes for championship coaches. Time to give him a nice bonus, thank him for his service and send him on his way.

I don't agree with anything on this post
Teams lose its not always on COACH....GO VOLS!!!!!!

If he becomes our Richt, keep him for a good while and let him stock the hell out of our cupboard like Richt did UGA. Kirby is an excellent builder but he started out with one incredibly stable foundation, we could only be so lucky to have Heupel build us a foundation so firm.

Frustrating loss, absolutely. But step back from the ledge.

If Nico still here we are at best 8-4. Joey is competitive in the SEC with ZERO spring ball in a complex, very fast pace offense.

Go watch Botch, Dooley or Pruitt UT football.

This is better , way better.

That's just dumb, before Heupel we were rarely even competitive in "big games" much less with a chance to win them. Furthermore, he has beaten Alabama twice and Florida so you can complain that he hasn't beaten Georgia and that is fair but no one really has the last decade. They have lost five conference games during essentially that timespan. If we are being honest, Tennessee wasn't a playoff level team last season but he also took us to our first playoff appearance.

I dont think we should write off 8-4 yet. Playoffs are possible. 8-4 is also possible.

Look at the SEC. It was Saban and Kirby winning just about every year. Who among this list has won a “big game?”
- Kelly
- Sark
- Kiffin
- Drinkawitz

DeBoer beat Georgia last year in a fluke.
Jimbo beat Saban once.

That’s about it.

I am just a person that has a different view than you do-perhaps you can tell us what championships he has gotten us close to. He just can't get us over the hump.

Your impatience is showing:

In 2022 we went from not ranked to #1 in the nation. Then lost when Michigan sold our signals to South Carolina. Kept us out of a four team field. That's close.

We played in the playoffs last year, then got smacked by Ohio State - but then again so did everyone else. Close

He's won a **** load of games and has gotten both Florida and Bama wins.

We're no longer at the wrong end of all the jokes and we're in a rebuilding year.

And we were supposed to lose to Georgia... but we were a kick away from shedding that albatross.

For perspective lets look at Kirby's record against Saban. Spoiler Huepel has the same number. Let's not forget to compare the situation Kirby walked into as opposed to Heupel's. And in case you don't recall, Kirby went 8-5 his first year with much higher level's of talent.

  • 2017 CFP National Championship: Alabama defeated Georgia.
  • 2018 SEC Championship: Alabama defeated Georgia.
  • 2020: Alabama defeated Georgia.
  • 2021 SEC Championship: Alabama defeated Georgia.
  • 2022 CFP National Championship: Georgia defeated Alabama.

You are a person that has never had one ounce of Orange Blood placed into your veins by investing your time, money, & life, into loving the University of Tennessee. I am 68-years old and have been in Neyland Stadium since 1968 as a hot dog sales person, U T Student, and 30 year season ticket holder. I have seen the good times and the bad, and trust me, NOW is a great time in Tennessee football. Is there more to be done, yes, but 5-years ago Tennessee was a non-existent player in college football. Coach Heupel has performed a miracle in his time here.

Whineman, it is not that time. Thank you for your opinion.
