How many of you are tired of Heupel not able to win big games??

Heupel has won many big games. Bama x2, @ LSU, @Oklahoma, Florida x2.

All these teams were more talented from a recruiting perspective. We have just now surpassed the 50% blue chip ratio. We are still actively closing the talent, but are now somewhat comparable. Yet, Heupel has us beating and going toe to toe with the most talented teams in the country. We just have to knock down a few mental obstacles that are hanging over our head for years that Heupel inherited (@bama, @Florida, Georgia).

Firing Josh would be a historically bad decision. We need to be grateful. His staff is doing a very good job on the recruiting trail. He’s building competitive rosters, and he wins even with roster limitations (see last year). This is the SEC. It’s hard to win against the big boys. Period.

If I were to change anything on this staff, I’d consider bringing in an experienced DB coach with previous coordinator experience. I think Banks overall does a good job as our DC, but he has a bad tendency to show his hand at times. He’s also had massive problems against UGA’s physical attack. Last night, I thought Banks showed his cards a little too much, and he was overly aggressive with his blitz schemes. It was obvious on a few plays that we were rushing the passer, and we were doing it with XYZ guys. I also think he needs to stop with the CB/S blitzes for the most part. Right now, pressure has to be generated by our front seven. I think we are going to have to help Redmond over the top more, and I think Boo probably needs to play some S on passing downs. Our LB play has to be better, and our LB rotation probably needs to involve some of our younger guys with more athleticism. Carter also has to step it up.

Overall, I’m proud of our guys, and I think we are getting close to becoming an elite program again. However, to get there, the players and coaches have to learn to close big games. Last night will either light a fire under these guys, or it’ll lead to a disappointing 8-4 season given the explosive playmaking ability we have on offense (which we lacked last year). Time will tell.

None have won a championship or have come close. You do realize there are only 3 coaches who have won a championship? You act like everybody has a championship coach but UT. Joseph and Kingsbury have been failures as head coaches. Johnson and Moore haven't won anything. You are clueless.
You are nuts.

It is very clear that even with teams not that good, when a big game comes around that the VOLS need to win, Heupel alters his persona and strategies to play it safe, not have discipline on the team (thus silly mistakes) and here we will be once again: a bunch of meaningless wins and NO championships. He has done a great job of getting the team out of the dungeon, but seems to lack that "special it" that makes for championship coaches. Time to give him a nice bonus, thank him for his service and send him on his way.
And replace him with whom?

It will be a very long time before Kirby is dethroned in the SEC.
No coach in America will be able to dethrone Kirby as long as he
recruits the way he has. We had our shot and failed, but Heuple will do
as good in SEC as any coach. Georgia could possibly lose one game, but that
is about the way they go every season. How many coaches can beat that?

Interesting- sick of the posts but not sick of not be a championship team????? Do you like mediocrity? Do you want the Vols to be a Dallas Cowboy type team?
So you would be of the opinion that the Steelers should fire Mike Tomlin? He has consistently overachieved with an inferior roster. They make the playoffs consistently.

When Heup arrived there were no locker room leaders on the team. Players did not know how to compete to win. Players were not equal in talent as the rest of the conference. Kirby stepped into a program that was winning 10 games every year. We are now just getting to that point with talent, leadership and knowing how to win.

Just exactly how many Conference titles and National Championships do you think we have won in the past 55 years? Vols have 6 SEC Titles and one Natty since 1969. Georgia has won 8 conference titles and 3 Nattys. Florida has 8 conference titles with 3 Nattys and Alabama has 21 SEC crowns and 10 National Championships in the same time period. Be realistic in your expectations. We are getting ready to be extremely competitive at a high level. I will stick with Heup the next five years and be proud to be a Vol fan. Other than 2022, the past 20 years have been pretty depressing years as a Vol fan. Now, we are relevant again.

Hall of fame dumb take. This is the old Peyton Manning standard. No matter who you beat or how many games you win, someone always says you can't win the big game.

A) Due to the play offs, no single regular season game is a truly big game any more in the sense it used to be in cfb. You have a 2 loss cushion these days.

B) He's beaten Alabama 2 of the last three years. That is THE big game for Tennessee in the regular season, period, end of story.

What an idiotic post. I'm not reading the responses, surely you got raked over the coals. I'm also sure there's a handful of meatheads that agree with your nonsense.

Obvious troll job. There's an ignore button that is useful on here. So Winerman, what's your Vol fan background since November 2024? Would love to hear it.

All these other names haven’t done anymore than our coach! 1 unlucky field goal away from beating the # 6 team in the nation! Vols will be in the playoffs!!
Kirby is the only coach in the mighty SEC out of 16 coaches to have won an SEC champ game. It's almost as if no one but georgia has a championship level coach.
