I am struggling to remember how many of these we have had. I know we have had a bunch. Not sure if this is a stat they track or not but I would bet we lead the nation in this the past five years.

I was just Trying to remember these. It's amazing how such a rare play has happened in such big situations the past 10 years.

...and yes. It's the dumbest rule in football. The other team shouldn't get rewarded for not even recovering the ball.

I forget who it was but we fumbled through the end zone against Bama...cost us the game...

If we hold onto the ball, it wouldn’t matter..

Hold on to the damn thing and it wouldn't be a dumb rule

Corey Anderson fumble has to be the big one here, especially since it was against Bama near the end of that game.

I think the intent behind the rule is for one of those scrum situations where the ball is like a greased pig and everyone piling on it, but it goes out of bounds instead of being recovered. Even in that scenario, the other team really hasn’t “earned” the ball. Agree-it’s dumb. (Up until the day a Bama running back coughs it up and we get the ball- then it becomes a maxim)

Doofus Butch probably had his best comment to the media ever when asked about Pig's fumble. He said he was trying his best to win the game for us and I can't fault him for that

I mean I don’t like the outcome either, but it’s hard to argue that the other team shouldn’t receive essentially a gimme TD off of it (ball on the 1 yard line) either with essentially is beyond the field of play (as opposed to the surrounding out of bounds).

It’s all, honestly, kind of weird and there’s really not a great solution to it to be honest...

Yeah, they recovered it for a touchback, that's right.

Also, this wasn't a fumble into the endzone, but we had the fumble that Georgia took back 96 yards a few years back (was that the same year as Pig's fumble?).
