Don't know the exact number but my point is, we are desperately short at DT and LB. Why would we bring in juco db's,when it appears we are loaded, instead of say a few more juco's in an area of need ?

We definitely are short at DT and LB, but IMO part of the reason for so many DB's is that Wilcox will be running with 5 on the field in most situations like he did back in Boise. I think we will see a few of the bigger DB's turn into the roving back, kind of like a slightly smaller/faster LB.

Last year, we didn't have enough DBs to run a dime package.

I think that pretty much answers everything, right?

In the case of Izzy Lanier he was an immediate upgrade and starter at CB. I'm absolutely fine with him being here. Who else was a JUCO db?

We have experienced db's that will be lucky to get playing time, but we are relying on converted o- line to play DT. Right ?

By that measure of experience, we have experienced DTs who will be lucky to get playing time (see: Joseph Ayres)

Good point, I forgot about ayers. Maybe we have more warm bodys at DT than I thought.

Guys in the secondary who could be gone after this season:

Janzen Jackson

Brent Brewer

Byron Moore.

I see no universe in which Lanier shows out well enough to leave for the draft after this year, but I think the other things I put should settle why you take a JUCO DB if they are really good.

I know brewer is older but he's just a sophomore. How can he leave early?

If you mean loaded (before the JUCO) being Fleming, Anderson, and Wilks as depth then we're screwed. We needed Lanier and Moore as DBs to improve, especially since Loften and Janzen were questionable. I'd worry more on the LB's depth. Our secondary should be one of the best in SEC with those guys coming in

Not saying all 17 are every down sec players but they surely have skills or would not be on the team.

The class doesn't matter, they just have to be 3 years out of High School to be eligible for the draft. He could have gone pro after last year if he had wanted to.

Anyone think lanier and Rod Wilks look alike? Maybe Rod is cloning himself to keep his legend growing.
